I went to a local show this weekend and bought a bunch more of the 1986 Fleer NBA set. Only need about 70 for completion....including Jordan :(

Apparently John Gruden was there, and I walked past him thinking how much he looked like Gruden lol

If I didn't just drop $20 on some Belt AUs I'd be all over that.

Lol, Leaf were so hasty in getting the first 2012 certified card for Andrew Luck out there that they ended up selling cards that were for "ANDERW LUCK" and listed his "HIGHT". They pulled them after 30 or so had been sold but they'll honor those sales and the misprint will be numbered to however many were sold. Which just pumps up their resale value really.

So Skip Schumaker is legit pissed Topps made a rare, super short print version of his 2012 card with the squirrel on it. He actually has a normal card in the set, this is just sort of a gimmick card that is tough to find and is pretty hot (600+ on ebay already). These cards just came out this week so its a bit of an inflated price, but still there's a lot of buzz about the squirrel.

Schumaker calls squirrel card 'ridiculous'
http://www.foxsportsmidwest.com/01/30/12/Cards-outfielder-calls-Rally-Squirrel-ca/msn_landing.html?blockID=656214&feedID=3794
"It's not disappointing, it's just ridiculous," Schumaker said. "I don't know how else to explain it other than that. You expect to have some sort of action shot or something but it's like a mascot card to me.

I feel ilke we could have a kind of awesome "trading session" via tinychat or something, post cards in here that are available for trade/post what we're interested in trading for, then set up a time a few days later where everyone goes at it like a pack of wolves

maybe that's kinda retarded but maybe it would be kinda fun, i dunno

I think the tinychat thing might be a bit much but yes we absolutely need to post our tradelists in here.

we could post our players/teams here, then go from there. then also i think some of us could post decent "hits" that we don't want to keep? also for set builders we could post the holes and dupes.

Yeah, Chicago has, like, one hobby shop in the whole city and it's nowhere near me, so I'll probably just end up buying a bunch of packs on my next trip to Target.

Which brings me to another question, can people really do that thing where they "feel" unopened packs and can tell which ones have hits? And if so, should I just avoid the loose packs at Target since they've been searched and just go for the $20 10-pack box?

yeah pretty much exactly what I was thinking, I feel like something like this would be more...logical? jucier? than trying to trade one or two cards to ship across the country (or overseas, in the case of gambra)

It seems to be common enough of a problem that people on BO seem to complain about FUCKING PACK SEARCHERS but if you already plan on dropping some coin on cards the blasters may as well be the way to go since you get those patch cards and the Target (or Wal-Mart) exclusive red-(or blue-)bordered packs.

people pack search for the relic cards by feeling(which usually are garbage anyway). i don't think they can feel autos, so theoretically those are still out there. the $20 "blasters" come with a nice, albeit manufactured/not game used, patch card BUT those boxes won't have a normal relic or auto in the actual packs. For 2012 Topps they have these $10 "cereal" boxes that have like 72 cards, a couple of store exclusive parallels, a code card and a shot at the relics/autos. Obviously hobby is better odds, but Topps 2012 is 2 bucks a pack for a reason, a high hit ratio.

Also if you are into the codes, you are likely to get at least two from the $20 boxes, so that might be worth it to you.

Yeah, I was never sure if pack searching was a real thing or not, I remember reading something where a dude said he could tell which packs had refractors in them which I have a hard time believing.

Wait, I have no chance of getting a relic/auto at all when I buy those $20 blasters, or when I buy anything at Target as opposed to Hobby? I know hobby and retail are different but the packs at Target still list the odds of getting an auto/relic.

Pack searching is very real though you'll always just end up with a relic card. Topps are doing their best to fight it with those dummy cards or thick refractor cards in every pack though.

And I'd mostly be into trading for "hits" than base sets unless it's just a few I need. Shipping more than maybe 30 cards intl is seemingly pretty expensive, not because of weight but because of the shape of them. It puts the package up a notch in the postage tier. A normal mailer with a few cards & top loaders is normally priced $3 or $4 when I get them.

There is still a chance but the odds are so high that realistically you're not gonna hit anything major.
