How a band whose only album consists of simplistic, uninspired, reverb-drenched guitar melodies (plus a straight-faced rip off of Wicked Game) garnered so much attention and praise is such a gigantic disconnect for me. At least Interpol had the excuse of bringing a killer rhythm section to the table.

This album will be worse than Antics, book it.

yknow after the first album i was pretty resigned to them being a flash in the pan but everyhting jamie has done in the plast 18 months has been goddamn genius so i have pretty high expectations on this being solid.

if they keep the moody gothy pop pout and add the texture of jamies remixes and shit... could be huge

yknow its hard not to blame ott for emboldening people to make posts this bad and think they can get away with it.

Why don't we just blame the moron who wrote it.

I think why they succeeded though is that they only had a hint of goth to their sound, the lyrical approach is more bedroom indie songwriter with R&B influence.

Awkward is a good word to say something about the critical situations which implies a strong feeling for anything.

that cover of "do you mind" that they did was just such a wonderful thing

that it even existed at all just completely delighted me, and on top of that it was good

when comparing interpol to the xx, it is important to remember that since the vocalists are a wash, it is interpol's superior rhythm section that puts them over the top

i'm sort of with badhat in that i respected that they didn't pursue anything musically right away because while i love that first album i didn't exactly see them as a band that could keep on delivering. but with jamie's output as of late i'm excited to here this.

edit: they should definitely keep the moody gothy pop elements though

Do you really mean to say that the disaffected female vocalist is that much better an archetype than aping Ian Curtis?

I really do like Jamie xx's remixes, production and solo recordings, but the xx does nothing for me and I wish he would focus on what he's been doing since then, because he has great ideas when they aren't primarily constructed around guitars.

Whatever, I'll shut up now.

probably the most boring band of all. should have gotten a real drummer (tho it's funny that that guy ended up being 100x better on his own). islands was the only good track.

Only bad thing about this band is the chick being ugly

They sounded surprisingly great and energetic at lollapalooza but I'd imagine they're better in a more intimate setting

what a fucking stupid collection of opinions

debut is still pretty much perfect. nothing has hugely impressed me from jamie's solo work since that gives me complete faith in this new one. the songwriting from the other two is more key i think
