Well I heard Johnny talk about how Chromatics were more Gothic and Dark, which is probably why I like them better. G

This is interesting and probably explains my own choice of Chromatics over Glass Candy.

Sometimes I forget that Chromatics were a shouty post-punk band at first.

that j_brooks post from 2007 about doing coke with johnny jewel and how he indebted most of his influences to rap production rather than all the italo music that critics were referencing in just about every blurb on after dark always stuck with me.

it's all the more obvious when you hear stuff like this

after in the city glass candy has the best tracks on after dark and they never really impressed me after that

i still listen to night drive though, so i tend to think chromatics is the better band.

"Hands in the Dark" is wonderful too.

The actual In the City album though looks really great on vinyl.

Italians Do It Better know how to package albums. Oh and their rendition of "I'm On Fire" is flawless.

the after dark comp was literally life changing

i can't think of anything else i listened to in 2007 other than that, pig destroyer, converge and ugk. and rich boy. i think i'll slip on down to the oasis.

i think it had ties to steve aoki or something i dont really care i'm just going to post shit in this thread.

i had this on my best of 2004 list along with other EAI, freak folk and improv noise rekkerds. literally the worst kid ever.

personally i wouldn't hesitate to say that chromatics/glass candy definitely shifted me away from that embarrassing p4k canon and received wisdom i adhered to as an impressionable 15 year old. with the kickstart from people like rentboy and j_brooks, i lept into house and disco music and it paid dividends.

i adore that video

blog house and the emergence of ed banger/kitsune etc. came at the same time as a lot of this stuff from IDIB too. it'd be fun to revisit all of that material in a thread sometime.
