i don't really like the synopsis. generally not a fan of prequels that can't resist the whole "you thought this... but MUAHAHAHA, it's really so, sooo this instead"

which is to say it could be an awesome standalone movie, but i don't like it wiping away/retconning/refiguring everything we took from the previous films and turning the franchise into generic space opera

unless you read a wildly different leak, theres no retcon or time travel involved

i dont think it changes anything we know about that universe, just tells a related story that addresses some ove the deliberate ambiguities of the series.

there must be competing synopses. this is the one I read, and it explicitly mentions the time travel angle, so it's obviously different from whatever you saw badhat.

it's kinda weird that ridley scott's only two good movies were probably two of the top 5 best sci-fi movies ever

i got set upon for saying pretty much exactly that last night. but it's not so weird as all that - the guy's a designer above all else, and his talent is for creating worlds, which doesn't mean shit in a thelma and louise etc. context and is nothing new in a gladiator / kingdom of heaven context, but for sci-fi it's perfect. also, he was very nearly the guy tasked with designing the daleks, but he left the bbc around that time. that would have been incredible.

i think i might be looking forward to prometheus more than the turin horse now. fuck.

the item was posted a month ago, and there's too much about it that's accurate (especially when compared to that shot-by-shot breakdown, as well as some of the quotes referenced in it) for it to be pure fanfic ramblings. i guess it could be a fake from somebody who saw the trailer a month ago, or otherwise came into specific details about the plot, but all of the following leads me to believe it's probably real: (the star chart, the "bio brain" and urns, holloway being captured+infected, charlize theron turning into something nasty ["she starts out as one thing and ends up as another thing"], the planet not being LV-426, etc.)

even if the synopsis is 100% correct it could still make a great movie, but i'm just generally in favour of more subtle and restrained stories. i find "here's an alien race that happened to run into humanity" way more appealing than "here is an origin story for earth and how all these aliens were specifically designed to interact with humanity"

i hate anything human-centric, really
