I didn't have much in the way of preconceived notions going in, but I thought Columbus was pretty cool! At least, I could see myself and my family living there. Drove around all day Monday and most of yesterday and saw German Village (yeah, scrump af!) and the surrounding area south of downtown, plus Clintonville, Bexley, Upper Arlington (Trump signs in the yards!), Merion Village, Franklinton (scary!), downtown and all of High Street, plus OSU campus. Wished the school situation was better in Old Town East/Merion Village, because that's probably where I'm most interested in living. Loved the houses there, but it was pretty jarring to see these lovingly rehabbed homes across from houses that are vacant and boarded up. Very different from where I live now. And we'd definitely be looking at Clintonville as a place to settle down if we end up in Ohio. I do worry that C'ville is basically a little bubble and not really like the rest of the city, but we've been living the university life for awhile now and I guess there's no getting out of that.

Ohio itself seems kind of like a strange permeable buffer between Appalachia/the Rust Belt and the Midwest. That's my vibe anyway. Stopped on my way home and visited Athens, OH (I'm thinking of doing a PhD there or OSU, not sure) and that town seemed very cool. Kind of like Asheville, NC if it hadn't boomed in the last 10 years.

Food was pretty good, the quick meals I had. Kolache at Kolache Nation, dinner and Lindey's, lunch at North Market, went to Cup o' Joe on High a few times. The Book Loft was awesome. So pretty good feelings all around. Nothing blew me away, but it seems like a good, solid town with stuff to do. Plus I hear the indie comics scene is healthy, so that's a plus.

If we end up moving I'll def reach out to y'all and buy you a beer. The neighborhood info really made the trip easier!

We're only coming up for 3 nights and it's a Cleveland specific trip so we'll be visiting some family doing other stuff. We'll definitely be back in Columbus before the end of the year though.
