i love Gimmick!, man. i think a lot of the difficulty lies in my not being able to control it well on Nestopia. i'm a pretty good old school gamer, and platformers are probably my strong suit, but i honestly couldn't get past the aforementioned waterfall section of stage 1 for days.

i posted Milon's Quest as a direct response to Gimmick!.

The thing that kills me most is how slippery the ground is; can't get used to it

The ground in Gimmick is every bit as slippery as in Mario Bros 1 & 3, so I don't see what the big issue is. I guess the game is hard first time through when you don't know what lies ahead (like the majority of older platform or action games), but once you learn that and accept it, its a very fair and I'd almost argue 'easy' game that has good mechanics and a really great presentation. Its not like its some arcade game purposely designed to eat quarters by throwing ludicrous amounts of shit at you.

Only played the first few stages but Milon's Quest is cute as fuck.

maybe it's something to do with the emulation, but the ground in gimmick is like 10x more slippery than any Mario Bros. game, ever. i just played them back to back to make sure i wasn't losing my mind.

Gimmick would've consumed me when I was young and free of responsibility and speedrunning the megamans for fun

Now it just makes me sad because I don't have the time to really program all the control nuances into my muscle memory

The only game I ever gamed hard enough to speed run was Cool Spot on Genesis. Loved that game.

You guys playing stuff on inaccurate emulators would be a pretty funny parallel to back when Del used to accidentally download the Movie Series films in Polish

The "all treasures" ending of Gimmick is genuinely beautiful, its a lot harder than beating the game normally but its really worth it.

it was just sort of a late comment to the slipperiness and control issues Bluemovers was having. I think most popular emulators for the older consoles are perfectly fine.

Gonna try and beat the game in under 11 minutes if anyone wants to watch. Only the regular ending though, getting all the treasures requires so much precision and the final boss is too much for me. The ghost boss is probably gonna make this impossible though :( . http://www.twitch.tv/penclaw

I'm at the final/final level and the last real boss is really hard. He doesn't even seem like he belongs in the game.

I never had the problem with this waterfall section in level. At least not enough of a problem to notice.

The music and sound in Do-Re-Mi Fantasy is really weird, pretty atmospheric for what seems like a pretty straightforward (but good) game

Got a sub-11 Gimmick! time finally. Every level was sub par and I died on stage 5 but I don't really care since that final bosses went a lot better than usual. I also should have hit the timer when I totally lose control Gimmick but I got excited and jumped the gun. Apologies for the audio stuttering, I hope I can sort it out for future NES games.

You guys should check out Guardian Legend for NES. Solid game, and way impossible. I've still never beaten it. I'd love to see dan smash it

Nice Work Dan, I would like to see you do a good ending run if you can muster it. Some of the treasures (especially the last one) are really the hardest parts of the game.

Snail boss tip: Bombs will hurt it anytime, but your stars have to be timed right when he's about to attack.
