welcome to being a boring xx edge middle aged dude

i prefer to have "bouts" of sobriety in between "bouts" of decadent debauchery

it all keeps things on an even keel, without me ever feeling too much in one camp or the other

felt this same way when I went cold turkey way back when I realized I was a full-on alcoholic

now my life is like M->F "just power through this shit and you can drink a whole bunch of wine and beer on friday and saturday"

Sunday is spent on self-improvement, generally because I drank too much on saturday

I don't claim this shit is healthy but it's allowed me to balance intermittent boozing with a normal human life

last night I was at the grocery store and I said "shit, I want a beer so bad" and my wife was like "so have one."

My impulse was one? I don't have one.

But I made it through.

cheers
The pig was a little frantic at the sight of police, but the raccoon was pretty laid back about the bust and took it all in stride.

It is possible, of course, to escape from this situation in which the plurality of thought-styles has become visible and the existence of collective-unconscious motivations recognized simply by hiding these processes from ourselves. One can take flight into a supra-temporal logic and assert that truth as such is unsullied and has neither a plurality of forms nor any connection with unconscious motivations. But in a world in which the problem is not just an interesting subject for discussion but rather an inner perplexity, someone will soon come forth who will insist against these views that "our problem is not truth as such; it is our thinking as we find it in its rootedness in action in the social situation, in unconscious motivation. Show us how we can advance from concrete perceptions to your absolute definitions. Do not speak of truth as such but show us the way in which our statements, stemming from our social existence, can be translated into a sphere in which the partisanship, the fragmentariness of human vision, can be transcended, in which the social origin and the dominance of the unconscious in thinking will lead to controlled observations rather than chaos."

but seriously this shit wasn't so bad after the first couple of months

i know that doesn't sound helpful, and it won't stop you from over-thinking it because it's natural but it just takes simple time.

It was a lot easier to drink responsibly when I didn't realize that I'm an idiot that hates himself and everything, it's true. Also before my dust allergies got really bad.

I think if I was ever at a point where it was an impossibility to drink one beer and stop there, content, I'd just quit entirely to spite the fucking thing

(the fucking thing being my apparent alcoholism)
