not sure about financing, but the art direction for the album was done by roger ballen

interesting, hadnt heard of him

Probably the most interesting thing about Die Antwoord, though, is that they got Roger Ballen to do their CD cover images. The photographer famous for taking hardcore, offensive and generally frowned-upon images of, basically, white trash Afrikaners from the Platteland, is a brave and smart choice for the project I think – particularly considering notions of the constructions inherent in Ballan’s work (conspicuously in his later work and certainly present in earlier stuff), as well as his associations with a particular kind of white South Africa.

how did you find this out? what else do you know?

the website design is impressive too; somewhere along the line they got some important people in SA to take notice of them

and yeah this is a legit link to the $o$ album, although a few of the songs seem to be repeats of stuff he did as Max Normal ['Super Evil'] and arent nearly as gimmicky; I think the few over the top gimmicky songs are trojan horses for what he feels is his real music

I got Yo-landi to friend me on facebook, been poking around the band's albums on there. They credit all of their pictures:
the photos in the black and white room were done by Sean Metelerkamp.. also this series

OMG jealous

gonna try to add her too, and Progeria guy as well

these people are my favorite artists right now

and is PUMA sponsoring these people; they went from like super underground hip hop crew in SA to being underwritten by PUMA? theres PUMA sponsorship on their website too; that Ninja music video looked like decently expensive production costs

maybe its all part of a strategy by big corporations to find nascent viral memes on the internet and fund them [I could see them having been contacted around the time they were putting out 'Wat Pomp' or 'Eat Meat']

been bumping 'enter the ninja' in a non ironic manner for a half hour now

last time I was this obsessed with a song mighta been Umbrella

when Yo-landi is like, "GO NINJA", thats a great point in the song

this truly is next level rap rave excellence; wonder where else I can find something like this

Yo-Landi also spits sick on 'Wat Pomp'; as does guest rapper Jack Parrow; Afrikaans is really hot language to go with hip hop as opposed to say many other languages that dont mesh

ive been bugging all my friends bout it all day, and i cant find anyone to appreciate it on a high enough level

you gotta get into the whole DIE ANTWOORD atmosphere, website, other songs, live youtube clips, history of the group, etc, to really appreciate

no one is down; they think it's funny or sometimes great, but they fail to become obsessed as is proper

even hipinion is being fickle after an initial burst of excitement

i want to street team for them

GO NINJA

DECAPITATE A HATER WITH AMAZING EASE, THIS IS NOT A GAMEBOY, DONT PLAY WITH ME

holy shit

our man Leon Botha on the 1s and the 2z

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLBeeKmlE_o

MUST SEE TELEVISION

he responds to youtube comments too; I think we can get him to board here and talk about GZA and hip hop

I need to stop thinking of him as a freak though

how this shit only has 3,000 hits; this guy should be famous; what is going on here

you guys realize there's only like 40 Progeria dudes on earth, and Leon Botha is one of them

A study from the Netherlands has shown an incidence of 1 in 4 million births.[19] Currently, there are between 35 and 45 known cases in the world.[20] Approximately 100 cases have been formally identified in medical history.[17][21]

bro, Leon Botha is DJ Hi-Tech, AKA their official DJ, he is part of Die Fokken Antwoord; this isnt some unrelated tangent

here's another video of him spinning sick on the t-tablez, next level rap rave

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKyl8mTceW4#t=3m50s

without Leon, you got no Die Antwoord

Nah, they had that big fat guy before I think they'd manage without Leon. Not knocking his skill or whatever but I don't really care about what these people do outside of their weird little band. I'm just going to pretend that that Zef Side video is how they really are.

Yo-landi Visser is very friendly on facebook; she responded to message as if she's not a huge next level rap rave superstar

Is this considered creepy facebook stalking or do I get a pass because I think of them as famous; I'd bug Leon Botha too, but I figure he has a hard enough time with life as is

Ninja doesnt have his own facebook, he uses Yo-Landi's to blog though; he has some blogs up there about how DJ Hi-Tech went missing because he did mushrooms and ran away from home
