Some great stuff in here:

The last-place Phillies were 0-42 when trailing after eight innings before coming back against Rodriguez, who replaced John Axford as the closer last week.

Joe Savery (1-2) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win. It was the first time in 18 tries that the Phillies won a game Savery appeared in.

I have to say it is slightly less satisfying to beat K-Rod now that he is a broken shell of a man.

I went to the game last night and never in my life have I seen so many line drive outs by the Cardinals in one game. Absolute laser beams by Holliday and Berkman and 3 out of the 4 were outs. The one Berkman hit in the ninth, Ethier didn't even have to move.

We should have won 9-5!

It's my luck that he goes what, 0-5, then goes on the DL so I drop him from my fantasy team. Comes back against the Cards and gets the win. Figures

I would say the Dodgers coming on with the run support for a change could be key, but one of those starts near the beginning of that 0-5 run he gave up something like 5 or 6 runs and tied up the game. So even with some cushion he still just has these awful innings, usually when the order comes back around for the opposing team.

Maybe the time off, a new rotation spot, not shaving... who knows.

Just for the hell of it. If the season ended tomorrow:

Yankees
Detroit
Texas
WC1:Angels
WC2: O's, White Sox, A's.

Nats
Reds
Giants
WC1:Pirates
WC2: Dodgers, Braves.

This is a situation where the 2nd Wild Card can really screw the Angels, who are two games better than the three 2nd WC teams, but would still have to play what is essentially a coin-flip one game playoff.

I hope there are 4 teams tied for the last 2 two WC spots

would love to see Selig fuck that up because there's literally no shot he figures out the right way to sort it out

Ken Rosenthal wrote:Yes, the Marlins are about to go through yet another violent upheaval, though with a different motivation than in the past.

Monday’s trade — right-hander Anibal Sanchez and infielder Omar Infante to the Tigers for right-hander Jacob Turner, catcher Rob Brantly and left-hander Brian Flynn, along with an exchange of competitive-balance picks — was not the start of a fire sale.

It actually was worse — an admission by the Marlins that they didn’t know what they were doing last winter.

The Marlins did not trade Sanchez and Infante for payroll reasons, though they will save about $4 million this season and $4 million the next. No, they made the deal because they’re disgusted by their underachieving team, and want to try something different.

Again.
