What's your vinyl setup like?

Jesus christ you have to be kidding me.

shit. i was hoping that wasnt the case since it was allegedly "professionally" installed when i bought it.

kino wrote:Can you adjust the vertical tracking on the Project III? Sounds like the rake of the tonearm isn't great enough. You want it to be parallel with the record. Ok, looks like you can't. Did you throw a thicker aftermarket mat on? Or perhaps you have the counterweight set too high. My Ortofon Om 10 tracks at 1.5 grams. I could crank it up to 3+ grams but the suspension couldn't handle it and the cart would drag its ass and the needle would wear out very quickly.

No aftermarket anything except for cartridge Super Om 10...think stock was an OM 5. Like I said, the dude at the audio store installed it. Ill try dialing the couterweight down...hopefully thats it. I pretty much followed the recommended specs tho which is 1.8. I mean, its never been above 2.

I got a pair of these once for free. They weren't as bad as everyone says they are. I used 'em for a while then installed them at a friend's shop so they could have tunes at work.

yeah, we think they're some off-market fences. i got them free off an old landlady who was cleaning out her dead son's bedroom. there's no branding anywhere. they sound great though, and i took them apart and none of the wiring seems half-assed, so i can't complain.

they look amazingly close to yours, same panel and everything, so i wouldn't be surprised if they fell off the same truck,

I have told this story before, but I got my current speakers (Infinity Quantum 3) and power amplifier (Nikko Alpha II) from one of Frau Artillery's coworkers when his wife wanted to declutter. In addition to these, I also got to rifle through their vinyl, which was tucked away in a closet. Their daughter was growing up in the late 70s/80s, so they had stuff they cared about (Iggy Pop) and stuff she was getting into (Minor Threat, Smiths, Echo & the Bunnymen, This Is Boston Not LA).

If that wasn't enough, the guy's wife passed my name along for my current job.

Everything about my setup is a pain in the ass, but it's what I'm working with. I may move furniture around in my room to get better access to my tables, and (hopefully) create some room for the 45s. We'll see how ambitious I get.

kino wrote:Just one Expedit Bluto? I'm impressed with your restraint. I'm up to 6 or so...

Well I've move every year for the past decade, so I have a lot of incentive to weed out the cruft on a regular basis.

That setup has good unexplored potential actually. Bring those speakers down so the tweeters are at ear level and you may be able to experience an immersive soundstage with half a chance at imaging. You'll still be getting a 6db bass boost (from corner boundary reinforcement) and while not particularly accurate, it's helpful with those small bookshelf speakers. What is that silver-faced integrated amp? I like it.

Here's a pic of my old desk setup featuring Dynaco A25's being powered by a DIYtube ST35 hidden below.

It's alright, it's fun. The listening setup is less than optimal. If I owned the house, I'd rip out the fireplace in the center and give those JBL 222 Disco's room to breathe. Then again if that space were open I'd probably swap in the JBL 4430's instead!

I have the exact same speakers. I found them outside of a used audio shop near my old apartment just as it had started raining so I made two rushed trips to rescue them.

I don't know a lot about audio gear but they sound pretty good to me.
