Love You is legitimately really good, though also really goofy.

Magical Mystery Tour (cont.):
-- "Strawberry Fields Forever": "I was pretty indifferent to this the first time but it's growing on me."
-- "Penny Lane": "You should ask what a 'fish-and-finger pie' is."

"Lady Madonna": "You can't mend the kind of stocking that gets runs in it."

"Hey Jude": "We had to sing this all the time in German school."

The Beatles: "My dad played this so often that I can't tell whether I like or hate these songs."
-- "Back in the USSR": "That seems like a kind of a dick move [toward the Beach Boys]."
-- "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da": "I can see why Lennon would hate this song. ... You could definitely play this sarcastically without anyone noticing."
-- "Wild Honey Pie": "We hated this song."
-- "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill": "We used to sing this at my dad."
-- "While My Guitar Gently Weeps": "Is this Rocky -- oh, right. ... George Harrison did this? I actually like this song."
-- "Happiness Is a Warm Gun": "Actually we used to sing this at my dad too. We were kind of dicks."
-- "Martha My Dear": "Okay, this is Roc -- god damn it. ... When I was a kid I hated this song because of the music, but now I can hate it because of the lyrics too. What is this even about?" (A: "As I recall it has something to do with his childhood dog.") "That doesn't make any sense."
-- "I'm So Tired": "I haven't heard this song in over 20 years and I still remember every word."
-- "Rocky Raccoon": "Finally. ... It doesn't even really make sense to me that this is a song."

And that's where we stopped.

Do you ever think about how insane it is that one man is responsible for both "Taxman" and "Piggies"? Is there a more humiliating combination of songs?

We are going to not listen to the rest of the White Album because my dad overplayed it so much when I was a kid that I cannot stand listening to it again.

Seriously it's been 20 years and I still know all the words to all the songs. I couldn't recognize Rocky Raccoon because I suck at music, but I know all the words.

Also "Magical Mystery Tour" led to the following exchange on Facebook:

Me [posting youtube on sister's wall]: Hey remember this song?
Sister: Yeah! Hey remember our choreographed dance to "Fool on the Hill"?
Me: Yeah we'd dance around [Other Sister] and she would cry.
Sister: loooooll
Other Sister: I remember crying.

Are you sure you've heard the second half of the White Album though?

I can't even contemplate listening to the Beach Boys discography in order, even only up until like Love You or something else comfortably before Sumahama.

I have!

Not nearly as often as the first half but I'm gonna be honest, I am pretty close to being over the Beatles anyway, so let us just skip the rest of this thing and plow through the last two and call it a day.

when I was a child I thought the beatles looked like the sex pistols after hearing "The White Album". Although I guess I just assumed every rock band looked like the sex pistols.

Of course I'm also going to have to cut a bunch from the beginning to keep her from killing me.

I mean it's easily in the top half of that album.

Honestly I'm excited to see the results of this.

Edit: Easily is too strong but it's an order of magnitude above everything beneath it.

I'll never forgive working a summer at the gas station that constantly played "All Summer Long" for making it impossible for me to even conceive of having fun all summer long.

"Don't Let Me Down": "Who does this song sound like? I want to say 'Eric Clapton' but I don't think I've ever heard Eric Clapton." (I suggested the Stones but she said that wasn't it. I'm pretty sure it was the Stones.)

"The Ballad of John and Yoko": "So he's just complaining about everyone being angry at him for cheating on his wife? ... I'm surprised the rest of the band was willing to play on this song." (I now look it up and realize it was only John and Paul.)

Abbey Road: "Did you bring any Beach Boys?"
-- "Come Together": "Is this song about having a threesome?" (A: "I...don't think so.")
-- "Maxwell's Silver Hammer": "This courtroom has terrible security." And on a personal note, go fuck yourself, Paul.
-- "Oh! Darling": "Are their songs getting longer? Or does it just seem that way because THIS SONG IS SO BORING."
-- "Octopus's Garden": "Well Pongu likes this song at least." (He was high again.)
-- "I Want You (She's So Heavy)": "Pongu definitely does not like this one. I think I'm with him. ... Seriously this song is like a million years long. I even like this part and it's still taking forever."
-- "Here Comes the Sun": "This is a Beatles song?"

And I don't recall her saying anything about the rest.

We're going to come back to Let It Be because she can't take anymore Beatles at the moment.

When we began this process I was confused as to how anyone could like the White Album best. Now that idea actually makes me sort of angry.

Like I would rather listen to "Doctor Robert" for an entire year than hear "Piggies" again.

It was weird listening to that one because I've only heard it like 100 times instead of one million.
