i'm surprised no one's said wilco yet, but i guess it was an amicable breakup since they lamed themselves up so much over the last 5 years. i still like the CLASSIC SHIT though and i can't really deny how big they were for me in high school.

i heard one of their songs at work today and it's like they're not a bad band, but in retrospect, it's like middling rock music with mildly annoying vocals, and not even too many great hooks. the collective reaction here was like absurd for a band that might use guitars to play popular rock and roll music

Alphabetical is one of the more dull albums I've heard but they came back after that. I mean they're a singles band.

I'll go with the Hold Steady, though I've definitely been pretty blahhed by Future of the Left and Rogue Wave.

I don't think hipinion has had many hive mind bands that were actually shitty -- overrated, maybe. About half the people on here never liked the Fiery Furnaces, who I can't stand but can't really dismiss that they're okay at what they do.

yeah i mean i have no problem with the pornographers. they're obviously not a bad band and i totally bought electric version at a borders in san francisco and loved it, but by now they're sorted in my mind as a band from an era of really white indie rock. it's not particularly fair, but thinking about listening to their records feels so anachronistic now.

oh with wilco i just meant a band that seemingly lost a lot of traction on here. i was always a huge fan, but i remember watching that live in the pacific northwest dvd a couple years ago and just shutting it off out of boredom.

i was way more willing to try out stuff like Do Make Say Think back in the day because the board liked that stuff so much, but nowadays i would never bother. post-rock really isn't my thing though, so they may be good in that context i dunno.
