This is just OK and does not really play to her strengths but I think it will still be a big album for her and I'm glad for that

I wish she had put out an album more akin to 'Little Red' by Katy B, which was a more mainstream move for her but lost none of her original appeal
all u had to do was stay <3taylorswift<3Toggle Spoiler

those pics are awesome! that must've been great to see her in that setting.
j-ol wrote:devotion this ain't. some of it is just confirming a fear i had going in - she's got serious MOR tendencies
still at work and haven't given it a full listen, but hearing this ... scares me. not sure how many MOR free passes i want to give her. "say you love me" was underwhelming enough.
in retrospect, what makes Devotion so good imo is how it seems to eschew Sheeran-ness for a graceful, less-bloated, understated sensibility that was more rooted in Quiet Storm.
i guess can't say i blame her though - she does have a much larger audience now.

I liked it quite a bit on first drunk listen, although I don't think I thought of the last one as elevated as a lot of people seem to

kinda disappointed at first but most of this album has grown on me, just like the first album was a grower for me as well

only track i don't really dig at this point is "Pieces"

have to agree re. this song. don't really dig some of the chord changes. it feels like it's going for a certain vibe at the start and then veers into another, somewhat incongruous vibe.

imo the clear highlight is "keep on lying." those harmonies.
pitchfork was harsh on this if i think about it - probably more in my own personal ~8ish range.

I agree with this entirely. After several listens, top to bottom it's pretty solid, especially the deluxe edition.
