i powered up the NES today and tried to see if any of the games still work.

mario works like a charm. can't play duck hunt on the lcd tv though.
top gun was playable, but all the text and graphics are semicorrupted, so i can't read any of the text and i couldn't land the plane because i didn't know what the instructions were saying.
double dare worked. physical challenges and the obstacle course are a bitch to do.

how do you get the games to work

beside blowing the cartridge, i would push the cartridge all the way down and then stick an object on top of it so that it kept it down, and the games would play

i opened up the nes and cleaned out the dust, spiders, and a lot of carpet i think.

i opened up the cartridges by using a dremel on a flat head screwdriver to make it work on the nintendo security screws. after opening up the cartridges, i used an eraser on the contacts.

it still took a shit ton of inserting and removing and retrying to get some of them started. mario did the best so far.

Oh man, back when ebay first started going strong, I made a bunch of money selling my Sega Master System games, after I learned about emulators and roms.

playing through treasure of rudras right now on my snes emulator. it was one of the squaresoft games for snes i hadn't played, and i'm pretty happy with it so far. its only been a couple days, we'll see if it holds my attention.

i have almost 200 NES cartridges, and add a few every other month or so.

top loading nes is where it's at, but lemme tell ya:

http://www.nintendorepairshop.com/nes_repairguide.htm

and you'll have your old front loader working good as new. Friend of mine found an old one in his parent's basement that couldn't get shit to work. He followed the guide, and now lips never have touched another cartridge again.

good thread.

i modded my wii this week and have been playing a bunch of snes/genesis games. lately just been fucking around with the platformers (mario, sonic, aladdin) and puzzle games (tetris attack, wario's woods). probably gonna start dragon quest v or chrono trigger even though i've beaten both of them before.

Unfortunately, I don't have that one. However, some Yars Revenge, Enduro, and Pitfall will get action. And Jungle Hunt.

I've always thought that Warlords was a pretty badass name for a 4 player breakout game
