[quote="RoyalCheese"]someone on the coachella message board made a good point. Hopefully the rumored new tent won't add more artists, but instead spread out everyone else and give more artists maybe another 10-15 minutes for their sets./quote]

i completely disagree with this. rarely have i wished a band would play longer at a festival. mind you there was an extra tent in '11 that they didn't have this year and its absence was really noticeable when the line up came out.

i mean yeah if you have a conflict you're usually ok with shorter sets, but if there's nothing going on for 25 minutes or so after the set's scheduled to end and it was a great set then usually you'd like some more music. i'll agree that, generally, the coachella set times seem sufficient for most bands. one noteable exception to me was this past year's radiohead set which just seemed way too fucking long somehow, even though i'm still a huge fanboy type negative connotation homosexual.

Yeah I see your point. I'm just wondering if an extra stage would alleviate conflicts. You're right, probably the majority of the bands that play don't need more time than they are allotted. I wish some of the subheadliners and somewhat "bigger" bands go more time on the bigger stages.

problem is, i didn't have much of an issue with conflicts last year. far from it in fact. spent most of the weekend kind of bored really. i wouldn't have gone had my wife not been a radiohead fan.

oddly enough, i really enjoyed the radiohead set even though i'm not that into them. probably have my old friend lucy to thank for that. we hadn't hung out in ages.

Mine have been:
DEP (2010)
Kanye West (2011)
Elbow (2011)
Chemical Brothers (2011)
Orbital (2010)

are the standouts for me, Id have to look at the lineups to remember others ive seen

ugh was just cold and wet that first friday. i think it partly ruined the weekend for me.

i've only gone the last two years because i finally got someone to go with me. making the trip from sf by myself sounded pretty lame.

easily my favorite performance was cut copy. in fact it's safe to say that was the best show of my life. even prince the night before at the la forum couldn't work the crowd into such a frenzy.

man cut copy was pretty amazing man

ive went like 5 years, last year was kinda ruined by that friday weather for me + girl stuff (not coachella related) but weird weekend overall

i might sell my pass this year depending on line up, most of my friends didn't get tickets and i dunno if they will when they go on sale again

i'll go for daft punk or the knife, otherwise they'll have to stack it pretty full

my years and favorites are prob:

2004 - pixies
2005 - bloc party (were in their prime after silent alarm, from videos of the cut copy performance it reminded me the most of this, crowd was just overflowing and really, really into it)
2006 - daft punk - best coachella performance, hands down
2007 - could only get day 1 tickets for this one. i guess bjork? she was p. good.
2008 - prince - barely edged out portishead. incredible shit.
2012 - overall probably jeff magnum

IIRC i was walking past Cut Copy for the Sahara tent or the Main Stage. they were playing my favorite song of theirs, so I stopped and listened for a couple minutes.

I didnt pay much attention to this year's fest, was The Creator's Project there again?

Since Hot Chip is pretty much confirmed for Coachella at this point, I guess I wil share this here:

Right before Hot Chip was to go on at Field Day a couple of days ago my friend finds 2 ecstacy pills in a baggy on the ground. So we wisely take them. A few moments later it is announced that Hot Chip has lost their equipment so they will only be doing a DJ set instead. Massive bummer. In Our Heads is my favorite album of 2012 and I couldn't wait to see them live. Felt like I was nearly going to cry. Thankfully, the drugs kick in and we enjoy ourselves regardless. When the set was finished they announce the equipment has been found and the EPA has allowed an extension of the festival by 30 minutes so Hot Chip can perform a live set. They were only able to play 4 songs but holy hell was it incredible. One of the best festival experiences of my life.

I know, wtityb, but I just really wanted to share that.

if it makes you feel any better there is a 50/50 chance the stone roses will be there this year since they are currently touring

so i'm pretty definitely coming out for this this year = assuming i can get tickets. already have a place to stay and other friends going
but how does it work? do they just do the same lineup both weekends or do some people play the first and not the second? If so how do you know which is which?

they do their best to get the exact same lineup for each weekend. As for when the lineup comes out. Yeah it could be any day now. My guess is Monday or Tuesday.

agreed, although there's no way the Stone Roses would be that far down in the lineup. but yeah, please be even half this good and i'm stoked!

The only noticeable differences between Weekend 1 and Weekend 2 that I knew about where for two artists I didn't even check out and they were just surprise guests. Gotye had the chick that sings on his big hit show up Weekend 1 and Fogerty came out during the Black Keys set Weekend 2. Like the_village said, the advertised show from the poster was identical.

I guess Radiohead's setlists were slightly different if you want to count that, and maybe some other bands did that too but I think that is a good thing and not really anything you can control by picking one Weekend over the other.

props to goldenvoice and the artists for keeping the lineup under wraps so well. I dont know how they do it. Im wondering how good this lineup will be. I keep wondering if there will be a headliner that no one has guessed yet, but I've no clue who it could possibly be

the hot speculation this week is Timberlake because of his announcement, before that it was Bowie because of his.

Right now I think 2/3 are probably something people figured out but there is a third that might blow our minds.
