https://soundcloud.com/american-alpine-journal/alex-honnold-and-tommy-caldwell-on-the-nose

pretty fascinating podcast on the nose record.

my favorite moment was alex dismissing speed climbing as dangerous because it isn't free soloing (i mean he isn't wrong, but its a dumb argument to make). then alex immediatly following that up with saying when tommy had slow splits (glad to hear him say this, it was always clear tommy was the weak link, and i still want to see the Adam Ondra - Alex team up even if alex says he is done), alex would phone the thing in and start borrowing gear off of aid climbers so he could protect sections (which negates the whole everything is calculated and not actually that dangerous argument he just tried to make).

also glad they threw some shade at Brad G and his sketchy as hell style of climbing.

There have been so many new gyms opening up in my area and it has created such delicious drama. Especially when it spills over to instagram, because as far as I can see climbers are uniformly tacky as hell online

online climbing culture is so, so dumb. instagram really ruined things. i troll people on their bullshit as often as i can, but sometimes that crosses into me being tacky as hell too.

The gym I used to go to now has everyone schedule when they can come in and climb, instead of whenever when I used to go, I would hate that
good for the ppl that own the gym tho, they are making tons of money and have built two more gyms because of it
I miss climbing, but would def hate how crowded it probably is all the time

Chon Jongwon won gold in the Asian Games for climbing

As I understand it that means he's exempt from military conscription! Woo hooo

I've just been an off-and-on gym boulderer for 3 years. Finally did some indoor top-rope today and this weekend am heading outside for more roped climbing. Yahoo

Anyone else been watching the world championships? Seeing janja win bouldering after getting second in ropes (by a 7 second double count back) was so cool. She has got to be the heavy favorite for 2020 Olympic gold.

I'm going to the Adirondacks and meeting some friends there this weekend
I think we are mostly going to boulder at nine corner lake

I'm psyched. Recently moved to a new city and it's slow going meeting other climbers. It'll be nice to see my hometown friends in a new place

I was opposed to a climbing film going out to mass audiences and I don't glorify solo'ing one single bit, but I'm glad I saw this. A great movie. You should see it, I think it's gonna be monumental both as an athletic (mental?) achievement and as a film. Right place, right time, right people kinda thing.
