(A listing of licenses for open-source software accessible in the PlayStation Classic’s menu said that it uses the open-source PlayStation emulator PCSX ReARMed.)

Friendly and obligatory reminder that RetroPie exists and is objectively the superior choice to these lazy cash-grab “classic” consoles in pretty much every way:

the biggest issue for the playstation classic is a lot of those games will just not have aged very well imo

totally disagree, the psx catalog is incredibly strong. im not sure how it would translate to a big tv or something but the games look great on my vita. so much psx stuff that ive played post-ps3 that ive still loved - xenogears, front mission 4, fft, ff 9, a number of shmups

i play those way more than i do the gb/gbc/nes/snes classics on my 3ds that i thought would hold up real well

It's not a great game list, regardless of whether the game have aged well, to be honest. The problem with the SNES classic was the games it omitted, whereas the problem with the PlayStation classic is the games they decided to include. Also it's way too expensive.

og controllers is just lol though

part of what makes the vita so great for psx/psp games is being able to remap both analog sticks, which means you can essentially figure out a way to add analog camera control to most games

doesn't the japanese list sound slightly more interesting?

Arc the Lad
Arc the Lad 2
Armored Core
Ridge Racer Type 4
Intelligent Qube
Gradius Gaiden
XI [sái]
SaGa Frontier
G Darius
Jumping Flash
Super Puzzle Fighter IIX
Tekken 3
Toshinden
Biohazard (RE1) Director's Cut
Parasite Eve
Final Fantasy VII International
Mr. Driller
Persona 1
Metal Gear Solid
Wild Arms

anyway, i pretty much entirely missed that gen (and the one after) so i have no say. if i were to make a psx, it'd just be games i've heard good things about/wanna play:

-vagrant story
-xenogears
-fft
-tactics ogre
-castlevania
-silent hill
-breath of fire 3
-king's field
-koudelka
-parasite eve ii
-front mission 3
-einhandr
-vandal hearts
-alundra
-tenchu
-saga frontier
-brace fencer musashi
-valkyrie profile
-dq7
-digimon world
-smth between lunar / arc the lad / legend of dragoon / ff9 because i'm oversatured on jrpgs

feel like nobody would buy that either

To how much I board about video games now, it's weird to think that I basically missed the PS3/Wii/360 gen. To be fair tho if feels like a low point

ps3 has some buried treasures but yeah that generation is generally not interesting to me. i guess this one isnt either, but only because everything i want to play is getting pc versions

I loved Xenoblade Chronicles! On my 3DS!

I think a big part of my feelings about that gen is that it was dominated by Western developers. It feels like it's taken a generation for Japanese developers to get up to speed with HD or something

yeah i remember it fondly enough but looking at my ps3 shelf, there's the arkham games and demons/dark souls, and then a lot of ps2 or like, genesis collections, etc

the original xbox was mostly great for becoming a home for cancelled dreamcast stuff

the 360 added panzer dragoon orta to its BC and it still looked incredible and i hate that there's never been another game in that series so much
