Yeah totally, but this goes for strategy/tactics games for me as well

Had a pretty good convo going on in slack about this

Find fighting fighting games fascinating but the level where they're interesting is so insane to me that it's almost like they're en entirely different things

Seems very all or nothing as a genre, like shmups, but shmups have more pull and gameplay for solo noob

Playing fighters is almost like learning to code or something

No I mean indie platformers where you do dashes and combo jump dashes and throw and I’m going to be annoying and not cite an example because I can’t remember any but maybe Guacamalee

you can play unranked online in any current fighter by watching youtube videos and spending like 4 hours in training mode and you'll do fine

sf2 was one of my first games, loved alpha and 3s and mvc2 to pieces, dbzf looks good and all my friends are spamming it but i'm way too bad at fighting games to play them nowadays

i've found my niche and its dumb topdown strategy-roleplaying games

also is anyone playing this indie roguelike deckbuilder "slay the spire" ?

This thing had better be incredibly good if it's keeping new Shadowrun modules away. I mean I expect it will be, but I still miss Shadowrun.

There’s some people who’ve been making a Shadowrun Returns module of the SNES game and I think it’s getting close to being done

I fucking suck at this DBZ game. I’ve played about 10 matches online and haven’t won a single one yet. Having a blast with it regardless, though it is kind of frustrating when I just get combo’d into oblivion.

i mean code vein is obviously very souls-like, though

also appears to have some of the worst art direction ever realized in 3d

that + i think dark souls has been meaningless marketing term since like 2013.

but yeah i was basically completely burned out on the formula by the time i was finished with DS3 and if iw ere going to touch a comparable game it would be nioh so.

yah agree re: "Souls-like". I am so done with all these dumb 2d platformers with "Souls-like" combat. Code Vein looks like and will be trash.

Is Celeste actually good or is it one of those games where everyone played it for 15 mins, Logged Online and said it was the 2nd coming, then post a "well I am burnt out on XXX" thing later?

I've put in 12 hours and written like 2-3 sentences on it so :gator_shrug:

It's not that long I guess? Main levels took me like 7 hours. Idk how you would get burnout from it.

i have played 3-5 platformers in my life and contemplated on celeste being The One. that's not an endorsement, just a random curiosity

this is now another weekly slay the spire thread: ascension edition, and idk if the scoring changed because i just finished a full hp 120 str run at 600, but whatever, just trying to ascend to 10 for now

speaking of platformers i tried putting another hour into hollow knight last night and bounced off it hard again. the corpse run mechanic seems unbelievably misplaced—the world is boring to navigate in the first place, hamstringing you for dying is a punishment totally out of line with the crime.

thanks squad. There's something about the hyper punishing mechanics of modern platformers I find really hard to swallow, even if you respawn immediately. It reminds me of that N+ game from years ago that just reminded me of playing Lode Runner or something, not my vibe!

I've put quite a few hours into Darkest Dungeon now and while not necessarily hitting a wall but I think my playstyle is just too cautious to keep this up. Slowly leveling up all my dudes via short dungeons, keeping torches lit, just feels like I am stuck in this safe playstyle that gets less and less fun each run. Hate some of the boss mechanics too; game does a good job of rewarding careful planning and prep but then inverts it when you're up against a boss with unique, party wiping mechanics.

while I've enjoyed my time watching, I kind of feel like I've experienced most of what Sea of Thieves has to offer with around 90 minutes of videos on YouTube.
