persona is a really weird inclusion

i guess as a series, it's now really tied to the playstation brand but it's not really a game i'd want to return to
hahaha mad me chuckle that

forgive my pedantry for a second but what's stopping you from just getting a box that can run retroarch and playing games at 4k with whatever shaders you want and not being limited to one system

ok nitpick over. i kinda get that the physical hardware/nostalgia is impt to u but i guess that'll just never be me

i am now totally swayed, carry on

I think since Retroarch introduced that run-ahead frame stuff it now has less input lag than the real thing.

this looks real dodgy but whatever

also been kinda rly intrigued by raves about the messenger, 'like a modern ninja gaiden', and to a lesser extent other things like timespinners/yoku/guacamelee2. go ahead and insert yr 'celeste' or 'swery game' takes here

the golden joystick awards remind me that despite any reservations i have, mhw is prolly by far my fav gaming experience this year
Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Celeste
Dead Cells
Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age
Fortnite Battle Royale
Forza Horizon 4
God of War
Into the Breach
Marvel's Spider-Man
Monster Hunter: World
Red Dead Redemption 2
Subnautica

but also puzzle me why mhw/dead cells/other great games are left off the pc category, then doubly remind me to not take such things so seriously

Has anybody done Retroarch emulation on the PS3? Does it run 32-bit gen ROMs well?

I tried to do PSX emulation on my Wii but it was an absolute mess. I would like to be able to do PSX/Dreamcast/Saturn emulation but I don't know what's the ideal hardware (would rather not use my computer.)

Have you got a hacked PS3? If you have Rebug Cobra you play ISO's directly off the console. It uses the internal PS3 emulator for it, its really good. Dreamcast is a different beast though, even on PC the level of emulation is really bad so any of the standalone devices are still unable to properly emulate it.

Mr. Driller is especially cool imo, would be cool to play Persona on a TV again too. Needs a lot more RPGs though. I don't know if I'll get it

this list rips. destruction derby slays.

oh call of cthulhu already released. i thought it was just the review embargo. anyway, people seem to not like it.

prose itself is not really that enticing (who the fuck am i to judge), but for whoever else was a fan of gw1, here's a trip down memory lane

I’ve watched some videos and it looks like the ui is not super informative and characters don’t interact much with lots of the game elements that aren’t immediately related to medicine (outdoor benches for instance) but the core of the game seens solid

has anyone here played Divinity: Original Sin 2? i feel like i've seen a lot of acclaim for it, but no one i know has actually really played it, and whenever i try to look into it i just slide right off what seems like a big pile of generic fantasy stuff

Looking into how to do this and I'm pretty sure my console version is too new to hack. Ah well, I guess I'll just use my laptop and hope I come across a Dreamcast for cheap in the wild.

I have tried to play the Divinity games, repeatedly, but they're too annoying/silly to bother. every time I think I'm finally feeling compelled to boot the game, I just ... stop

they are genuinely impressive in a kind of Ultima-reminiscent "interact with literally everything" way, but the interactions are mostly fiddly and the combat is messy

for all its flaws, it's astounding to me that Deadfire flopped while D:OS and its sequel--the weirdest, fussiest, most Belgian CRPGs imaginable--are smash hits

oof

i'd no idea poe2 was considered a flop and am also equally astounded that somehow d:os is a gamer smash hit, but i do consider it the golden standard of a modern crpg. unlike a few other takes on the genre, d:os feels like it merits all the changes and additions it makes from the baldur's gates or nwns of yore, which successfully make it feel modernized instead of a one step forward, five steps back result.

iambic and i have quibbled over the quality of its writing, and i expect you'd agree with him more than me, so i defer to him on that.

to hear combat being called messy is near heresy to my ears. pretty much every gamer will praise the combat system to high heavens--it's fluid and slick in ways other games have attempted and failed numerous times. y'know, those games where if your fireball spell interacts with an oil spell it does +9 damage? in d:os, you're literally resolving combat situations by igniting stray oil puddles, moving explodable barrels to desired locations for later use, or reanimating corpses from the ground. even now, i don't know that i can think of a better engine for a turn-based rpg to take place on. it's glorious. it's even more fun when you pull in friends to do stupid shit with you and you all end up blowing the whole place up by accident. the engine is also impressively modular in case you want to pile on 40 custom mods.

and yeah, you can pretty much interact with every little thing. maybe a book from a random npc's inventory will come in handy down the line. maybe you just feel like murdering the whole town. it might be a bit arcane, but i like it.

i'm not particularly capable of drumming up enthusiasm for the game and i suspect it might not be your thing anyway, but *shrug* worth a go, maybe.

Toby Fox has released a game called Deltarune (anagram of Undertale):
https://www.deltarune.com/

I'm excited to get home and try it. It's just out so nobody knows if it's a full game, prequal, demo, or what
