Beck's working with Pharrell and some other "high-profile" collaborators for another LP due this year.

Does this mean we may get another Midnite Vultures type record? Eeeee
and that's that.

yeah i was reading his wiki page a week before this new LP came out and there was an entry saying his new album was going to be a follow up to One Foot In The Grave.

There's a lyric on blue moon that drives me nuts:

See the turncoat on his knees
A vagabond that no one sees

If I follow the instruction of the first line, then the characterization of the second line is meaningless
But then again, if he's being pointed out to me, then clearly the voice directing my attention to the vagabond has seen him

these lines were annoying me too, but mostly because the way he pronounces it made me think he was gesturing to a "timecode on its knees" lol.

yeah it does seem to get worse with each listen. how is this even possible?

no, it's like a bell curve

at first it's not really catchy so additional listens make it better, then it clicks and you're like "oh good", then you keep listening and just the first three notes make you wanna slash your wrists

Beck Announces Song Reader Album Featuring Jack White, Jarvis Cocker, Jeff Tweedy

Back in 2012, Beck released his Song Reader—an "album" of original songs released only as sheet music. And now, he's finally announced plans to release actual recordings of the songs, with each track recorded by a different artist. It's due out July 29 via Capitol.

The record features contributions from Beck, Jack White, Jarvis Cocker, Tweedy, Eleanor Friedberger, Laura Marling, Swamp Dogg, Jack Black, Sparks, the New York Dolls' David Johansen, Jason Isbell, Loudon Wainwright III, Norah Jones, Fun., and others.

"It amazes me to hear how these musicians have made the songs their own and in the process revealed that the interpretation is the living breathing soul of the piece," Beck said in a press release. "These interpretations have made the book something new--- something better."

You might recall that Cocker, Black, and others accompanied Beck in a live Song Reader performance late last year.

Read our interview with Beck about Song Reader.

Song Reader:

01 Moses Sumney: "Title of this Song"
02 Fun.: "Please Leave A Light On When You Go"
03 Tweedy: "The Wolf is on the Hill"
04 Norah Jones: "Just Noise"
05 Lord Huron: "Last Night You Were A Dream"
06 Bob Forrest: "Saint Dude"
07 Jack White: "I’m Down"
08 Beck: "Heaven’s Ladder"
09 Juanes: "Don’t Act Like Your Heart Isn’t Hard"
10 Laura Marling: "Sorry"
11 Jarvis Cocker: "Eyes That Say 'I Love You'"
12 David Johansen: "Rough On Rats"
13 Jason Isbell: "Now That Your Dollar Bills Have Sprouted Wings"
14 The Last Polka: "Marc Ribot"
15 Eleanor Friedberger: "Old Shanghai"
16 Sparks: "Why Did You Make Me Care?"
17 Swamp Dogg: "America, Here’s My Boy"
18 Jack Black: "We All Wear Cloaks"
19 Loudon Wainwright III: "Do We? We Do"
20 Gabriel Kahane with Ymusic: "Mutilation Rag"

new song! its' not gonna be my new favorite, but i'm glad he's heading in this direction. it sounds like modern guilt era. and that pre-chorus part sounds like electric feel.

and i guess a new album is on its way

im not sure the point i lost faith and or interest in beck, but it was kinda sad... loser made a huge impact on me at the time it - along with the video came out. he was one of the first new popular artists that made weird and lo fi stuff that i loved and he continued that streak with his work with the dust bros. i felt a little something from sea change, but somewhere between there and the fucking scientology affiliation and probably the last decade of material he's put out just made me really have a distaste for him.
this song isn't anything too special, but its a pretty decent dance/pop/rock song and shows promise of a better direction. i'm really pulling for liking this new record and perhaps the man, himself, again.

i like "the information" but there was a change w/ him in that album and from there on. my impression was that having a family and kids really changed him and i wish he would sing about that more. i feel like everything from modern guilt has been him trying to recapture something instead of being honest.

so this song is streaming now.

i guess i like that he's moving away from the downer starbucks folk shit but as kooky as this song is, he still doesnt sound like hes having much fun. i guess hes trying to have a cool affect but his vocals sound so phoned in. but if "wow" and "dreams" are part of the same album, then that's already 10x more interesting than "morning phase."
