I had a terrible new experience here about a month ago when my foot got caught in one of those upright turnstiles. Someone was pushing from the other side and I must have been dragging my feet or something. Its an exit I have been using almost daily for almost 7 years. It was extremely painful and hurt for like a week

Last week, the Regional Plan Association (RPA) published its Fourth Regional Plan, a sweeping report that recommends 61 actionable steps aimed at improving the New York metropolitan area’s infrastructure, housing and environment in order to allow it to thrive in the coming century.

Upon its release, the plan caught a good deal of flack for a proposal to slash 24-hour subway service in order to extend windows for track updates and maintenance. But that audacious idea is just the tip of the iceberg—the RPA has put out a whole slew of interesting recommendations that, if put into action, could radically change the way millions of people navigate and live in New York City.

One of those recommendations comes in the form of eight new subway lines and extensions, which would provide train access to entire stretches of the city that are currently without it. In its report, the RPA points out that more than one-third of New York City’s residents do not live within walking distance of a subway station. The organization’s proposed changes to the subway system are coupled with its idea of a new, unified regional rail system called the Trans-Regional Express (or T-REX). Together, they’d expand train access to cover millions of additional people in New York City and the surrounding area.

Yeah this is pornographic to me. Also a ton of people (*cough cough* Builda Blasio) were willfully and short-sightedly misrepresenting their proposals for fixing subway service, but that's no surprise.

me too. lord knows none of this will ever happen.

it would be a terrible thing in many ways but i think the best thing to do to fix our current mess would be increase bus service a ton and shut down individual lines for a year to fix them

This is exactly what should be done, shut down the entire line, close the street above it to private car traffic, and run a shitload of buses. They'd get the work done much faster and much cheaper than the way they do it now. But there's no political will to tell people maybe they shouldn't be driving their personal car up and down 6th Avenue.

hmmmmmmmmmm

Local politicians, business owners and representatives from neighborhood groups came together to demand action from the MTA and DOT in advance of the 15-month L train closure slated for April 2019.

Neither organization has made any public report on their plans to ease traffic congestion or protect local businesses, according to a statement from City Councilmember Stephen Levin’s office, and the community is calling on them to release reports for public comment.

...

The city has proposed a fleet of diesel busses to carry commuters across the Williamsburg Bridge, though neighborhood groups have balked at the environmental implications of diesel, demanding cleaner busses instead.

Even then, there’s still traffic to deal with. “There has to be a dedicated bus lane on the Williamsburg Bridge,” said Councilmember Levin. He also called for priority given to busses once they cross the bridge, with lanes planned to join them seamlessly with Manhattan’s traffic.
