kenny hasn't been the cook for at least 2-3 years at this point, and he hasn't even been chilling in the dining room bullshitting with people over the past year his children run the shop and do a great job. when the essex street market moves across the street, shopsin's will move along with it you can still go! and you should their pancakes are my mom's favorite in the city, and she is a true pancake connoisseur

this isn't a great jones cafe situation (which was never really one of my personal haunts, but it was very important to a lot of people, so RIP to that place. it's legendary)

pancake sampler is quite delicious at shopsins...particularly the smores and mac and cheese. never liked waiting there but have fond memories when they were on carmine street.

electric zoo is an abomination, but the videos I saw of tiesto last night were akin to a full-on ecstatic religious experience

Aha. I was wondering why I’ve been seeing folks in rave attire on my street this weekend (I live near a ferry berth)

went out for a late afternoon walk despite the heat and immediately remembered it was the parade and crown heights would be absolutely crawling with cops. the nypd did not disappoint. did have some baller jerk pork, which i had never had.

the village voice officially folded over the weekend
the end of an era
hopefully their archives finally get properly digitized by some organization/institution. hoberman & sietsema’s older work deserves to be read
I wonder where bilge ebiri & zachary feldman (among others) end up

Wow. Can't remember the last time I actually checked out the voice, but I know pre-smart phone at least, I was still reading it every week.
