Got my system on Monday and a pro controller. Really enjoying it. Started Zelda last night. Trying to make this the first Zelda game I actually finish. Yes, I know how sad that is.

Really annoyed that Amazon only told me today that it'd take me a month to get NBA 2K18 through them, in spite of the fact that I pre-ordered it in March and apparently the delay was known about in July (why it never came up in the dozens of times I looked up info on the game in the last 2 months, I don't know)

So... apparently I'm buying it on Friday morning for $15 more than the Amazon pre-order price and also need to buy an SD card to get the digital version (which I'll also, obv, never be able to sell on the back end, even if sports games don't ever get you anything worthwhile). Meh.

I had similar worries about a more open Mario, but this trailer really showed us a lot more different gameplay mechanics of the 'everything goes' philosophy of a game like SMG, and not just 'exploration', so I'm more confident in it now than I have been. Seems like there are a lot of confined sections of wacky platforming gameplay.

hope they prioritise 60fps doom over graphics

in handheld mode, specular mapping won't matter

Gave that Octopath Traveller demo a try, and it has kind of a Romancing Saga vibe and looks/sounds very nice. Definitely has potential.

Love the dog catching Marios hat on the beach.

Love the Switch.

octopath definitely shows a lot of promise, but seems a little grindy and im not sure the battle system will be interesting enough

love the overall aesthetic tho

yeah Octopath looks and sounds incredible, and will probably be one of my fav releases on nostalgia for the genre alone. haven't finished Olberic's demo playthrough yet, but i agree that so far it's a bit grindy and the battles are a bit stale. there's some promise in the 'press R to boost attack' stuff, though, so hopefully it gets even more complex/fleshed out in the final game.

anyone grabbing NBA 2K18?

I did. I played a season of MyGM and was a little non-plussed. My team got sold. Twice. And one of the owners wanted to move the Celtics to Seattle. And then the original owner bought it back. And it didn't seem to have an option to do non-CPU generated rookies. My owner strong-armed me into trading for a top draft pick (which is a real weird goal for the Cs) and to get Mo Speights (despite the fact that I had specifically went out of my way to get more C depth earlier and so he had no role)

And both owners were constantly talking about weird food and made up apps.

That said, hope it's a bump in the road, I kind of like the framing, outside of it being a little too wacky. Hope it varies and/or they shore it up in updates.

I really haven't played the actual game - I'm going to have to learn the controls on Switch.

it's cool! but i feel like it's got none of that signature Metroid creepiness. more atmosphere than the game it's a remake of obviously / prime 2 + 3 but I guess I just wish they would have gone in a different direction aesthetically

Is Cave Story good?

I know it's old, but I never played it, and I'm itching for a new game after finishing Battle Kingdom and before Odyssey comes out. I like Metrovania games but I'm a bit unsure on ARMS and I don't think Splatoon 2 would be worth it as someone who primarily plays single-player.

Cave story is very good. Having played it for free on PC, the $30 feels steep (and as such is one of the few games I’m considering getting physical, especially with all the goodies they’re throwing in) but it’s a super strong 10 hours or so
