making a strong commitment to lose weight

Jesus christ you have to be kidding me.

Yesterday was my first day back in the gym since early November, and I also ate clean while recording all my calories. Back to the gym tonight too. Hopefully I can drop back down to 220 by the end of the month (not planning on drinking any beers) to give me momentum to get back to 190 for the first time since undergrad (2006) sometime by July 1.

Personally, I eat low-cal style for breakfast and lunch so I can enjoy a beer or two at night. Otherwise, this shit would all fall apart

Don't let the scale stump you, either--you're going to be building up your muscle mass so weight changes won't be as noticeable while standing on the scale

Luckily I won't have a access to a scale until I move back home in February. I'm just concentrating on eating clean and getting some vigorous exercise in every day. The weight goal isn't as important as fitting into my suits better.

Targeting 1750 cals/day. I usually have enough left over for a pint at the end of the day, but 1 or 2 at home turns into watching sports on the couch until they're all gone.

Right, I guess the beer self-control thing is necessary to do this.

1750 is what I've been doing too. feels fucking great a few days in.

My problem with the beer thing is I like huge, west coast IPA's which tend to have 2-300 calories per bottle, so i've just been buying a make-your-own-six pack of 3 IPA's and 3 session lager's which i think is the best balance between good beer and low cal (130 a pop)

Part of my problem for November/December was exclusively drinking huge hoppy IPA. So delicious. I wonder if Dogfish Head has a light IPA?

Thought I replied to this but don't see it....anyway

Ranger (New belgium IPA) is delicious, widely available, and 185 calories, which is pretty great for an IPA

i wanted to go out for lunch but instead i stayed in and had chicken with brown rice. B)

my pants aren't much tighter than usual, and i weigh about the same as i always have. but i've basically transformed a good amount of muscle into fat. sucks.

also: no longer have a gym membership.

anybody have good routines to gain muscle at home with limited weights? i have a couple adjustable dumbbells (6-26 lb's each) and an IRON GYM pull-up bar. i want to gain muscle but i don't think i can do it with what i have.

A million wide arm and short arm pushups, chinups and pullups til you die, very deliberate dumbbell exercises with lots of reps. You can get some size and tone up nicely

word. i guess the trick is to mix up sets. i can do consecutive sets of curls with the 26's until my arms fall off but not really get stronger/increase reps over time 'cause i'm pretty sure i've plateaued on curls at that weight. feel like if i had dumbbels that went p to 50 i'd have a ton more stuff i could do.

Currently 160 lbs. Hopefully going to lose 7 lbs this month, 14 lbs by the summer. The weather really isn't helping me out with the exercise side though.

Surprisingly lost a bunch of weight during holidays. It seems like the recipe to success is to drink to get drunk and stay up till 5am, wake up late and eat whatever at like 5-6 in the evening, then start drinking again. Repeat. Good luck!

gotta admit, if it takes more than 10 or 15 minutes to get to the gym, i'm probably not doing it (previous place was a straight shot to the Lamar location in maybe 8 minutes). my new job keeps me workin weird hours, and i'm not a morning person. i need to find something to do at home if i'm going to do anything at all.

Yeah, how tall is everyone?

I'm 6'3'', so my perfect weight is 175-180. I was 175, now i'm working my way down from 195, which is still not overweight but right on the brink. Like 2 pounds from the edge

p90x is fucking crazy. i tried it last year and had to give it up, way too intense. plus my downstairs neighbor really didn't appreciate the jumping and such.

i'm feeling pretty good today, with the third day of healthy eating under my belt and third work-out session in as many days in the books. i'm finding that the protein drink really helps, i had it in the morning today and it kept me pretty full until lunch. i think the weirdest time for me is the hour or so leading up to the gym.

what are you guys eating before you get to the gym?

i think i'm like 5'9" or 5'10", so the being 200 pounds is pretty fucking bad. i'm terribly pear-shaped.
