making a strong commitment to lose weight

Jesus christ you have to be kidding me.

Postby badhat » Tue Mar 16, 2010 7:20 pm

seriously though baby steps is right

diets (as a short term event) are- for the most part- a bad idea.

better to gradually make small permanent, sustainable lifestyle changes.

cut soda this week

take up hiking next week

swap simple sugars and carbs for whole wheats and fruits and veggies the week afer that

etc
Nothing weird is going to happen.

yeah when i used to take ritalin i sustained my relative skinnyness for like 10 years. once i stopped taking it regularly i sorta balloned, but i started drinking a lot more. i dont like the anxiety ritalin gives me so im probably not gonna go back on it.

I need to lose about 8 pounds and get abs back for the summer. I took up running and i'm quitting drinking this month. I have finals coming up anyway so really I should be studying instead of drinking anyway.

I'm taking the babysteps route, although my final goal is to drop about 20 pounds, so I should really pick up the slack as far as being active is concerned. I subbed most of the soda with tea and fresh orange juice, and cut down on snacks/candy.

Spring could be a good time to start bikin' around more again. I never take the bus, but I also rarely ride around without purpose. I'm still kind of in shape, tackled 5 kilometers in under 20 minutes today because I was late for an appointment.

Okay so it's probably closer to 30 pounds, now you know! I lied because I didn't want to sound fat.

Haven't weighed myself for a long time and I certainly feel like I've gained some since then. I'm not fat by any stretch of the imagination though, still in the green for the BMI.

Also I can't touch my toes standing with my legs straight anymore, which bothers me more than I could ever imagine it would.

i almost went to jack in the box to gorge on some tacos and curly fries but i decided to make myself a tuna sandwich instead.:) but then i couldn't find the can opener and so i made a cup a noodle soup.:(
which i guess is still better than jack in the box right?
tacos and curly fries.. mm.

i pretty much eat one meal a day. and it's usually terrible fast food. i started changing that by introducing healthy snacks. and a cereal when i wake up. everyone said i need to eat more frequently if i want to lose my dumb belly.

eating one meal a day will not help you lose weight, even if that one meal is healthy. sucks and seems counterintuitive but that's the way it goes.

people who are in the process of shedding pounds often eat more than three times a day—just at key times and the right stuff.

really? i thought you just had to consume less calories than you worked off that day? i mean if i burn 1900 calories a day just sitting around and only eat 1100 calories a day, how can i not lose weight?

where your body stores fat is more or less genetic.

how you lose that fat has nothing to do with targeted workouts.

you lose body fat by burning it via aerobic activity and/or caloric deficits.

you can make body areas with more fat look better by building muscle under the fat, but like... doing ab crunches doesnt burn much belly fat, it just develops ab muscles.

you burn manboobs the same way you burn a flabby ass or a spare tire- with aerobic activities that make you breathe hard* and make your heart beat fast: running, cycling, rowing, eliptical, hiking, etc....

your genes will decide which fat stores to burn first, but it doesnt matter which form or aerobic activity you do for fat burning.

*breathing hard is actually the best sign that youre burning fat, as aerobic metabolism essentially uses the oxygen you breathe to burn fat for fuel for aerobic activity.

eating one meal a day is disasterous for your blood sugar, and whether or not it leads to the kinds of caloric deficit you need, will lead to all kinds of other health problems.

yes, you lose weight with caloric deficits created with a combination of activity and diet, but the healthiest way to eat is several small meals and snacks thoughout the day, rather than dumping a thousand calories into your stomach in one sitting and then starving all day. super retarded.

Losing weight is incredibly easy, it's essentially just a matter of choice. People who claim otherwise just don't care sufficiently about being overweight. All it really takes is to stop eating after 5 pm and doing some exercise once or twice a week. And stop eating unhealthy food. After navy service I had gained some weight, lost about 25 pounds in a few months. Ridiculously easy, stop whining and get to it.

Losing weight is incredibly easy. Its about choice. All you have to do is choose to take amphetamines. After the navy service I gained some weight, sure, but then I made a responsible life choice and dropped 25 pounds in 3 days.

Its easy. You do the meth.

its really offensive to people who are otherwise bright, willful people who struggle with weight to belittle that struggle by saying its really easy...

its easier for some people than others. or there wouldnt be so much discussion of it in our culture and so much bad information and so many gimmicky plans fleecing the american public.

like... its really easy for some people to smoke the LSAT, its really easy for some people to run a 6 minute mile....

but when soneone who cant do those things easily asks for help, responding with "its so easy, dummy" isnt constructive....

youd be hard pressed to beat peanut butter for good empty non-cholestrol bomb calories. try making smoothies with peanut butter, non reduced fat yogurt, bananas, chocolate and whey protein.
