Because aside from just the violence, the general tone of the movie is probably far more lurid than Spielberg will probably take it.

The Original Battle Royale Being Converted to 3D
Nothing is sacred anymore. Nothing. This 3D craze is just going too far. It's one thing to take a modern film during this latest jump-off-the-screen phase and convert it into, well, let's face it, subpar 3D; but now that people are going back to films that were made years ago to give them the pop-up-book treatment, our stomachs are really starting to hurt.
According to Screen Daily Japanese studio Toei is preparing a 3D version of Kinji Fukasaku’s cult action thriller Battle Royale.
Fukasaku’s son, Kenta Fukasaku, is supervising the 2D to 3D conversion in Tokyo through his production company Fukasaku-Gumi. The 3D version of the original will be ready for market screenings in October and released in Japan on November 20th.
Why? Why must you torture us like this? What did we ever do to you but support your films? It hurts. It ... just ... hurts. Just as annoyed? Sound off below.

Okay, our minds are officially blown. Blown we tell you. The strangest and probably most interesting report out of Cannes today has come in the form of news that legendary filmmaker George Romero will be remaking the also legendary Dario Argento's Deep Red in 3D. Two words ... holy shit.
The story came today via Variety that Romero is indeed in advanced negotiations to helm a stereoscopic remake in English of Argento's cult classic splatterfest.
Claudio Argento, who is Dario's brother and regular producer, has penned the screenplay for Romero's redo. For those who don't remember or haven't seen Deep Red (for shame), dig on the video below to get one hell of an eyeful. Look for more on this soon as the plan is to start shooting the flick this fall in Canada.

Fright Night RemakeYou know what's sad? Here in the Dread Central offices we've always loved 3D. When used correctly, it's a campy and fun experience, but now Hollywood is looking to cram the effect down our throats any chance they get whether a movie is filmed in 3D or not. The next potential flick to get the jump off the screen treatment? The remake of the Tom Holland classic Fright Night. Sigh.
Buried in an article over on Variety are rumors of DreamWorks talking about bringing us the toothy redux in 3D. So the question beckons ... does that turn you on or off? Be heard below.
The new version, directed by Craig Gillespie, sticks to the original concept of a teen (Anton Yelchin) being convinced that his new neighbor is a vampire, though no one will believe him.
Colin Farrell has the plum role of the vampire, named Jerry, who on the surface appears to be a cool guy but is really preying on the neighborhood. Chris Sarandon played the role in the 1985 pic.
Toni Collette is Yelchin's mom, who at first disapproves of the new arrival but changes her attitude when she meets the magnetic man and -- surprise -- doesn't believe her son when he tries to tell her Jerry is a vampire.
Keep it here for more on Fright Night as it comes.

The studio is weighing up two rival projects which take Frank Baum's original story as their starting point, and will be very different from the 1939 film starring Judy Garland.
The first is Oz, produced by the team behind the Twilight franchise and aimed at the teen market.

The second, as-yet-untitled film has a darker tone and moves the action closer to the present day, with Dorothy's granddaughter returning to Oz to fight the forces of evil. The script has been written by Josh Olson, whose previous credits include David Cronenberg's A History of Violence.

Unfortunately I don't think Carpenter has the same pull as Ridley Scott.
Also, I don't think he gives a shit.
