uh-oh, the 1-2 punch of ernest greene and alan palomo might make summer 2011 chill.wav pt. 2:

http://vimeo.com/22662646

Neon Indian's Alan Palomo has had a busy Winter. He traveled to Helsinki to begin work on the 2nd Neon Indian album, which he's putting the finishing touches on now in New York. Upon his return from Helsinki he was whisked away by the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne, resulting in the collaboration EP release The Flaming Lips with Neon Indian.

Today Neon Indian offers the first glimpse at the band's second LP, with a video clip that includes music from the new album. Titled after the first of a three-part instrumental movement excerpted from the upcoming LP, Heart: Attack gives us an initial glimpse into the subzero shores of Helsinki where Alan disappeared to over the winter months in the writing of this record. Shot and edited by Austin filmmaker Sean Lopez.

This is the re-up. Refinement of a genre, relaunch. M83 becomes MBV.

3:30 onwards is the chillest of all waves. Holy shit, this album is going to be the best. New Washed Out, M83, Memory Tapes, Neon Indian, and Active Child is going to make for one of the best summer soundtracks possible.

yeah i'm really surprised this is actually happening
i think most of this board actively hates his work but if palomo can make a new album where every song is as good as "mind, drips" or "psychic chasms" and not just like a 45-second lazy nintendo vomit, it will be epochal

totes: lost!, viva la vida, or strawberry swing?

and by "format" do you mean "albums that people still for some reason paid to have recorded in a real studio and then other people who tuck in their shirts paid someone money to get them on a magazine cover that parents will buy in an airport for their depressed child"

I mean the "long player" as a mode of expression. It doesn't require all of those other qualifiers. Washed Out could have done one too if he had it in him, but most "long players" are tripped up by the process of shaping enough songs to fill one, e.g. the form oppresses the content. The trick of gestating and finessing an album's worth of pop, whether you're dealing with velvety medieval largess a la this record, or a recorded-live-to-one-mic-in-one-take tearaway, is that the music has to be lived with and considered from all angles, making the album a refined curriculum of your work during a specific period, or in a specific vein.

And, "Strawberry Swing".

yeah sorry that was just my free-associative hangover description of what i imagine my parents buying me "a rush of blood to the head" and "maladroit" was like. i want to make a long player some day. i wonder if coldplay's next album will be any good.
