How the Now-Censored 'Bojack Horseman' Became a Voice for a Generation of Disenfranchised Chinese
Referred to as diǎosī (屌丝), the outlook of these "losers" is characterized by "funeral (丧 sāng) culture" that sums up their bleak perspective on life. And when it comes to funeral culture, one television show stands above them all: Bojack Horseman.

The malaise of cynicism depicted by the show has struck a chord among Chinese audiences – namely, a disenfranchised young generation of Chinese in their 20s and 30s who, like Bojack Horseman, live in an idealized world, but can't find any reason to be happy. So although the show is a biting satire on Hollywood and the celebrity culture, Chinese viewers have found the dialog in Bojack Horseman to be profound and poignant, quoting it to each other on Weibo in massive numbers.

wonder if we should have a funeral culture thread, this sounds like extremely my shit
btw I ended up at a dinner a few months ago with with a bunch of writers including Raphael Bob-Waksberg. I took the opportunity to mention how much I loved the show and how deeply I identified with it. His response was like, "hopefully not that much!". "well..." I started, but I couldn't finish and the smile left my face as I looked away
So, Laura did finally make it home.

Not sure I'm ready for Bojack after Twin Peaks. If I'm going to watch this I might have to take the rest of the year off.

My goodness, the 'No?' in E5 was... cutting. (Not spoiler tagging because I think that was vague enough but... yell at me if need be)
