I thought this was a pretty good article about the need for multimodal transportation in LA. Whether it's a good take on Birds specifically, I can't say as I rarely deal with them.

I’m coming to LA for 5 days on 8/3. Anyone going to Beach Goth 2018? Lineup looks weak compared to past years but I love The Growlers and it looks like it’s real close to Dodger Stadium and I’ll already be there for their game in the afternoon.

birds are a curse on the city

everyone should cut their breaks if you see them. they are already lobbying super hard to be all over the city, paying off local politicians - the company is owned by former higher ups with Uber

LA Cinema Calendar - August

Image

August Highlights:

The American Cinematheque has a stacked deck of excellent series this month, most notably:
    - An extended weekend of Andrei Tarkovsky films, including the premiere of a brand new 4K restoration of ANDREI RUBLEV!
    - An expansive series of classic 3D films, focusing on the golden age of 3D cinema in the early 1950s (CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, DIAL M FOR MURDER) and the 3D renaissance of the 1980s (AMITYVILLE 3-D, JAWS 3-D)
    - Several screenings of Janus Films’ new restoration of the groundbreaking American indie WANDA, the sole film from writer/director/actor Barbara Loden
    - A selection of some of the late Dennis Hopper’s finest film work, from APOCALYPSE NOW REDUX to BLUE VELVET to, most excitingly, a new 4K restoration of his rarely screened directorial follow up to EASY RIDER -- THE LAST MOVIE, a blank check that bounced so hard on its release that he wouldn’t direct again for another decade.
Jesse Lerner brings us “Simon & The Sacred Cenote: 16mm Selections from the Archive of The American Egypt” featuring a 16mm projection of Luis Bunuel's 1965 SIMON OF THE DESERT at the Velaslavasay Panorama on Sunday, August 25th.

The Nuart will be having a week run of Josephine Decker’s latest acclaimed film, MADELINE’S MADELINE, featuring two showings with the director herself in person for a Q&A. Catch those on August 17th and 18th!

The Autry museum will be screening a 35mm print of the excellent 1961 independent film THE EXILES, a fascinating and intimate blend of reality and fiction that follows a group of young American Indians for a night out in the Bunker Hill neighborhood. They’re pairing it with 2014 short called LEGACY OF EXILED NDNZ, which serves as a contemporary response to the original film.

The Tom of Finland Foundation is hosting a new film series “Film4Fags” with screenings this month of BEFORE NIGHT FALLS and LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION! at the Tom of Finland Foundation in Echo Park.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences will present a program of HOLLYWOOD HOME MOVIES. Treasures from the Academy Film Archive with old home movies from the likes of Jimmy Stewart, Betty Grable, Olivia de Havilland, Errol Flynn, George and Ira Gershwin, featuring footage of Disneyland and 1920’s Los Angeles.

The Arclight Hollywood will be hosting Spike Lee and several cast members in a Q&A after a mid-day, mid-week screening of the Cannes Grand Prix award winning BLACKKKLANSMAN on August 8th.

Women and Film will be presenting a free screening of Daisy von Scherler Mayer's PARTY GIRL on the 28th at Zebulon with a 90s dance party to follow.

Memory Presents the series Selective Memory, where they’ll be hosting three screenings this month at the Downtown Independent with DRIB, PROTOTYPE, and FRAUD.

Seeing a film at the United Artists Theater in Downtown’s Ace Hotel is always a treat. This month you can catch Jack Nicholson in Roman Polanski’s CHINATOWN on Saturday, August 4th.

***NOTE TO MOVIEPASS USERS:*** A recent attempt to use MoviePass at the Downtown Independent proved fruitless. Even though the app listed the showtime, the attendant at the theater told me single-night events would no longer be supported. Frankly, the entire MoviePass service seems to be on the verge of going belly-up, so take our MoviePass guide with a grain of salt for now… changes may be afoot.

so many people around me left midway in

also that many people getting drunk just to watch sung tongs was funny, I think some people were expecting something else

it was great and sounds way better live, especially you could win a rabbit

also I really enjoy watching the security up front completely confused by artists they have never heard of

i ended up at Animal Collective on incredibly powerful mushrooms and those tapestries were something else

i had only ever seen them once before opening for Black Dice when i was so small and never really cared a lot about them one way or the other

that show was sick though also animal collective sounds a lot more like deftones than i'd bet many would be comfortable with or than i remember wow

I mean I'd advocate throwing them into dumpsters, in trees or smashing them into millions of pieces before snipping the breaks. just not sure how far ppl here are willing to go.
