Children of Men didn't suck at all though and the camera work was stellar. This sequel is gonna be just average I think.

Realizing what a weird and imperfect movie blade runner is has really blunted any expectations I might have had for a sequel, aside from a general annoyance at another sequel 30+ years later.

I went and saw close encounters and in the pre-movie hype "documentary" villeneuve says that it's Spielberg's subconscious metaphor about filmmaking. or some shit

why do yall hate leto
leto is a pretty good actor.
A lamp with a white shade was knocked over and broken. Someone was smoking pot. “This is the pot room!” a young man said.

This was a few weeks ago:
According to Studio Ciné Live (via Entertainment,ie), Villeneuve says that Jóhannsson isn’t leaving the project, but that the two composers are coming on to help. “It's hard to get to Vangelis' angle. We have Johann's breathtaking atmospheric sounds, but I needed other things, and Hans helped us." Both Zimmer and Wallfisch both coming off of their latest collaboration with Christopher Nolan, Dunkirk.
Now it's:
But then word came out a couple of months back that Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch had come on board to help with the music for the project. And then, when the poster was released recently with only their names credited, we started to get concerned. And indeed, Iceland Review have now confirmed with the composer’s agent that Jóhannsson is now off the project entirely, with the slightly ominous addition that “he is prohibited from saying anything at this point due to his contract.”
Oof. Zimmer is gonna Zimmer all over this bad movie.

Shoulda used OPN - though attaching his name to this pending train wreck would be a kiss of death

If the script contains a few kernels of interesting ideas I'll be happy. Good choice for director, the aesthetics look okay-to-not-great imo, sounds like they should've gotten Dâm-Funk to do the OST, and we have Mr. Ford looking his goofy old self. My prediction is that it'll be a 2010 to Blade Runner's 2001. We shall see!

i think the best-case scenario at this point is that it's a decent-enough sci-fi thriller that's nowhere near as weird or meditative as the original. critics will probably like it with reservations and the board will probably hate it. i'm keeping my expectations low in any case.
