had one listen this morning. I think it'll take more than one spin to know for sure if the sprawl of the thing is a virtue or not. lots of good stuff but the title track seemed a bit like a stinker.

bassackwards really grew on me, love it. check baby is fuckin killer, too. those are the mvps for me right now

lots to love though the title track is a bit of a drag, hope it grows on me, but right now it just sounds like a big momentum killer smack in the middle of the record.

It’s effectively a double album

To me it’s like the first album ends with bottle it in and the songs after that are like the meandering encore

this bored me just as much as b'lieve i'm goin down

i'm not trying to be a shithead contrarian but he's firmly in the "i like his earlier stuff" category for me. childish prodigy is a fave of mine, i haven't seen it get mentioned a lot here.

It's more just like he has one vibe and that's all there is to it.

There is always one or two songs I end up keeping from his albums (on b'lieve it was "Life Like This," on this TBD) and I never feel bad about junking the rest.
And I feel like this year is really about, just the year of realizing stuff.

yeah even the run of constant hitmaker - wakin' on a pretty daze has so much expendable material. when he's on, he's on though.

I agree he’s gotten more “boring” over time but I also feel like I’d prefer this progression to him staying confined to the psychbedroom weird bro

Specifically that view comes from the fact I’ve given Kevin Morby a few shakes lately and he seems to be mining early Kurt a lot but I also find him really landfill and inessential and forgettable

the only thing I'm kinda missing here is one of his meditative finger pickers ala "all in a daze work" from the last one. might helped the back half become a bit more dynamic.
