The cover, Shoe's synopsis, mudd's disapproval, and the phrase "very heartfelt and genuine" are making me think I'm never going to bother reading it

anyone read this
it comes highly recommended by a notoriously jaded former professor who has published extensively on pynchon, gaddis, delillo, et al

hey kent i did notice you were plowing through the FC stuff earlier. i don't remember if i've mentioned it before but

Image

was a breakthrough reading experience for me. that's where i first encountered vollmann, kathy acker, and a bunch of other writers i've followed closely or enjoyed work from.

haven't really gone after the earlier FC dudes, but eurydice's f/32 is great. that jaffe i was so/so on, and i've never read much sukenick.

Oh hey. I have that avant-pop collection. Read it about 6 years ago. Might need to revisit it. I forgot Acker was in it.
I love you music, but that track is waaaaaaaay to light to be my face song.

Have you read anything by Anna Politkovskaya? If not, I highly recommend it.

No, I haven't. If I remember correctly, Gessen is actually sort of critical of her writing style (and says negative things about her personality in general, also suggests that Putin wasn't responsible for her murder) but I'd definitely be willing to give it a shot. What would you recommend starting with?

Putin's Russia. I really admire Politkovskaya myself, regardless of who is responsible for her death. It takes courage to do what she did.

I'd say the Earthsea cycle is the most logical place to start.

and it sounded pretty great, so I'm picking it up. Anyone enjoy The Instructions?

Ridiculously good. Witty and quick paced and just plush. I'm a sucker for juvenile fantasy/sci fi, but this is just stunningly good.
