Just listened to this for the first time. Really good although it almost feels like a Bradford solo album type of song rather than Deerhunter. Might be his most confident vocal performance to date.

I remember watching this around the time of Microcastle, it's pretty cool if you want more Microcastle vibes to soak up

I love Microcastle and it's still probably my fave even if lyrically the reasons the ennui in it intrigued me back in 2008 no longer really speak to me (but I put that down to maturity, Bradford's lyrics have changed too, still plenty of ennui but it's different :) )

I have this signed by Josh. Took it out of the drawer it was in when I heard the news and had a little look at it. :(

deerhunter actually has so much more influence over modern indie/new bandcamp stuff then animal collective, i just realized.

yeah I think that's definitely true they're a lot closer to that kind of bedrock indie rock guitar bass drums

animal collectives influence was like chillwave lol, I still think all those anco records are super interesting though and they kind of left a lot of paths that nobody took. I don't think cryptograms is that far from something black dice or animal collective would have done though

yeah i was listening to cryptograms the other day for the first time in a while and some of the ambient tracks were reminding me of feels-era stuff

i remember seeing bradford at an animal collective show in atlanta around the time strawberry jam came out i think

yeah.. but also certain aesthetic things (lo-fi, delay pedals, maybe the way the drums sound etc) seems to still be a thing. also mac demarco, one of the big draws, made deerhunter-influenced stuff as makeout videotape
