i went to the store on tuesday and the fake meat cooler (which has always been a fucking wasteland) was stocked to the brim and had a lot of stuff i'd even never seen before. i was just there to pick up some veggies for dinner sides, and ended up spending 68 bucks, mostly on vegan junk food.

you could tell that they made an effort to placate the new years resolutions, so i figured i should do my part to reward them for it. also, if it all sat on the shelf until it expired, then it would give them all the more reason to go back to never stocking it.

dominos australia released a vegan range and an option to switch for vegan cheese. my local vegan groups are a fuckin mess over over eating processed goods or supporting big business :|

i tried to order one but wtf dominos is fucked for figuring out the actual price. i was going to walk and pick it up so the pick up price was eight dollars down to five with the voucher but it was real hot outside so i went to delivery and it jumped to 24 dollars or 17 with a voucher. too confusing with large price differences for me to deal with so im back to litres of soup in the freezer mum made me over christmas.

i faced my first true test as a vegan friday night, when my friends invited me out to a german restaurant. they thought i was joking when i revealed my resolution to them, but they were otherwise accepting. the veggie platter was also solid. but when i asked the waitress if any of the desserts were vegan, she glowered at me and asked, "what does it mean, vegan?" and i felt like an idiot

i was dreading having to explain my decision, but now that i got that over with i feel better

that's incredible

handwringing over this kind of thing drives me crazy. one of the biggest criticisms of veganism is that it's necessarily classist, and this sort of macro availability can only be a good thing in that regard. baby steps for a population that still sees veganism as an esoteric, difficult diet

i'd support that scene

nice work. the way i do it is if nothing on the menu is clearly marked just ask about eggs and dairy and hope that covers it. not trying to make anyone feel bad for not knowing what vegan entails

yeah, proud of ya, blurst. your vegan coming out is always awkward, and having to explain it to servers can be exhausting. sometimes it's easier to just pretend like you're allergic to everything.

I was surprised how much instore advertising they had over this stuff yesterday. Most of it was sold out! But the bbq mushroom pizza is good, and the teriyaki noodles are ok

was so excited to finally find some larabars at the grocery store and then started looking and every single flavour have nuts in them. They also have way too much sugar in them. Guess I'll stick with my non-vegan quaker granola bars. Damn nuts in every damn recipe.

So I'm not a vegan yet but I haven't eaten meat in quite a while ( year +). I love to cook and my decision to stop eating meat made me nervous that I won't continue to learn techniques and grow as a cook. If anything cooking mostly plant-based as made me more creative. I highly recommend this dude who is really inspiring. Best vegan YouTube I found no question.
