Thanks for posting this. This was my first concert ever, and despite an entire evening of great performances, their set was the highlight of the night for me. I had never heard them before this and was completely blown away, especially seeing Enigk snap two strings on his guitar and somehow not miss a beat. Went home and bought Diary the next day and was all in.

thought this was pretty underwhelming at the time and kinda made me glad they didnt begrudgingly go forward with a new album
the other new song was pretty cool though, so who knows, maybe a new album could have been good

They worked on new material and released one song on a RSD split single but weren't feeling the bulk of the stuff they wrote.

Whoah damn I did not know this was out there! I taped this off the radio the night of and then lost the damn tape. Hoerner did not play this show, right? I remember him being the really anti-California guy in the band. Anyway huge thanks this is really exciting for me

The How It Feels... vinyl is bad packaging in that it comes with the same booklet the CD came with - not an enlarged version of it, but the actual, disc-sized insert for a jewel case. Would it really be so hard to enlarge that a bit? I've already got one of these and there's nice artwork in there, would've been nice to have it LP-sized.
The Rising Tide wasn't great, but I'll ride hard for Killed By an Angel and The Ocean. The Fire Theft record was pretty nice, although it hasn't aged super well.
What I keep coming back to, is let's say somebody came to you who had never heard SDRE before and was looking for an album recommendation. Could you really recommend any other album other than Diary? Although I guess the rest of their albums don't really sound the same as that one. So maybe that album was actually an outlier.
I've been mainlining SDRE for the past couple of days thanks to this thread, after ignoring them for about 13 years cos I burned myself out on them in high school/college.
yeah realizing how affecting "guitar & video games" still is to me now & sort of takes me back to the emotional landscapes of my younger self's imagination as morte mentioned has been one small gift of this revisitation

"Here are some kids. Do you want to hear some kids?" - No not particularly.
How it feels.. was my introduction to this band and still probably my favorite from them. Guitar and Video games changed my life as a young lad. I can really relate to the person who said it conjured up emotional landscapes hitherto unknown for them. Maybe all of my days spent listening to sunny day as a teen contributed to my depressed personality.
Podcast was great. Identified with a lot of the stuff he's gone through. It's really weird how sometimes there's certain people that just have sort of mirror image emotional lives and it's always powerful to me when I hear their stories. Thanks for sharing that link.
That interview made me sad. I come from the Marc Maron/WTF school of thought, where I like think everybody hangs out and are friends. Though it was interesting to hear all that stuff. Dan Hoerner always seemed like he was having the best time in the band. I guess it's easy to have a good time when you're the asshole.
