i make this thread once every few years to gush after i watch the whole thing.
it's just 10/10 stuff. it's crazy how much they didn't screw this up when you think of all the things that could've gone wrong and all the other great examples of old stories being ruined in movie format (or even just old movies being rebooted etc).
everyone here hates this apparently but i dont care
my friend found this in the dollar bin at the local record store & dropping the needle on it to see wtf it was while in the store is one of my musical highlights of 2016
I think the crappiness of the Hobbit movies really soured people on the whole Middle Earth thing, but yeah, these movies still slay. And we're lucky that Jackson decided to go with relatively mainly practical sets instead of greenscreening everything. Even his use of old camera tricks to make the hobbits look small instead of making them completely CG. It's amazing that Fellowship came out in 2001 and still looks ok, while the prequels also came out around that time and are unwatchable cause of its stupid use of greenscreen and CG.
it's weird since they were all made like, together, but i liked Fellowship a lot more than the other two movies. the vibe was a lot closer to what i imagined in the books.
semi-related: the silmarillion has always had a reputation for being really dry and boring but i liked it a lot! "Beren & Luthien" might be my favorite Tolkien story!

yeah i remember RotK co-op with my ex being pretty fun, if not very deep. but then when i think about what i want the game to be it's basically just Dark Souls

Watched Fellowship and the Two Towers about a month ago. The first time I rewatched them since they came out and I was not a fan at that point. Unfortunately I cannot say my opinion has changed.

They are just not for me I guess.
sometimes i wonder if you needed to read the books as a kid to fully love these movies.
