VAMPIRES WON!

CREATURE/LOST LOVE WON!

Image
Welcome to Romania, in the region once known as Transylvania. It's the present day. Winter. We're in a small town near the base of the Carpathian mountains. The region is scenic and the buildings are mostly very old. As with many remote villages, we are slightly disconnected from the modern world, though modern conveniences abound and things have certainly changed a lot around here. Not everyone is happy with those changes: some cling to the old ways, and some believe that the supernatural beings rumored to inhabit the area are especially unhappy with the way modernity has crept in. At night, the fog often snakes through the mostly narrow streets of the town, the mountains cast ominous shadows over everything, and most decent villagers lock their doors tight against the cold and... whatever lurks out there in the darkness.

RULES & NOTES
* Mason rules apply. If you say the word "mason" in public you will be killed instantly by assassins of the secret society. They won't hear you if you use it in a private group or PM/DM, though. If you haven't played before you might think this one is a joke or easy to follow but at least 1 person dies every game from this, so be careful!
* Speaking publicly about the Mummy or the Scarab Amulet, especially about who holds it or has held it, is also forbidden and will likely result in horrific consequences.
* NO game-related screenshots of any kind are allowed. You are also not allowed to quote from or paraphrase the contents of moderator correspondence, especially the initial role PMs. Quoting (or misquoting) other players is fine. This rule applies both publicly and privately.
* Anyone who hasn't voted in the thread for 4 consecutive days will be killed off. If you get an important role and know you won't be able to fulfill its duties, please contact me early on so I can make adjustments.
* There will be a chance of some "Bloodmoon nights" starting in mid-game; on those nights, the rules regarding night kills will change in a few ways and there will be more potential for bloodshed. The details will be explained before one happens.
* Once you're dead, you're dead. No communicating with other players or passing on information after you've died. Ghosts should refrain from posting too much in the thread; an occasional joke or taunt is fine, but don't try to influence the game in any way.
* I've created a Slack, but you are not allowed to post directly about the game in the Slack general areas. The Slack is primarily for private groups and DMs for those who want to use them. I'd like everyone in the game to be in the Slack, and to sign up for it using board usernames to avoid confusion.
* Please include me and Alice in any private Slack groups or other group chats/forums you create. We won't participate much unless you directly ask a rules question, and we certainly won't have time to read everything, but we'd like to be included just to keep everything transparent. Please also let us know if you're using any anonymous email accounts for the game, and CC sevenarts@gmail.com and jmsykes86@yahoo.com on any anonymous emails you send out. We don't need/want to see PMs/DMs.

The Slack for the game can be found at:
http://hpnww10.slack.com

Invites are going out now to everyone's email addresses.

*****WEREWOLF ROLES*****
the wolves win if all vampires and the Bogeyman are eliminated, and the number of wolves (including Minion & Sorcerer) is equal to or greater than the village population

Werewolf - Wolves hiding amongst the villagers; as a group they may choose 1 person to attack per night. Werewolves and vampires are immune to one another's attacks.

Lone Wolf - One of the wolves with a secret win condition of their own: they wish to be the sole remaining wolf. They win if all vampires and all other wolves have been eliminated, and the wolf team (including Sorcerer and Minion) is equal to or greater than the number of villagers. Once per game, the Lone Wolf can attack 1 person at night in addition to the regular wolf kill; their target cannot be another wolf. The Lone Wolf may also forge official alliances with specific other characters: Bogeyman, Creature, Lost Love, Farmer if Neutral, and Sibling if wolf-aligned. If the Lone Wolf can become allies with these characters, the allies will count towards the Lone Wolf's parity total and their win conditions will not be considered contradictory, even if they otherwise would have been.

Sorcerer - A human helper to the wolves, a disgraced former Seer who has turned their talents to evil. Each night, they can scan 1 person, and will be told if that person is a seer. They can identity the Seer, Detective, and Apostate Seer, but will only be told the person is a seer, not the exact role. They will only get a positive scan for the Apprentice Seer if the Seer has already died. They do not initially know the identities of the wolves, but are encouraged to contact the wolves if they can.

Blood Seer (NEW) - A rogue vampire hunter and seer who works for the wolves and can help them to eliminate the vampire threat. Each night, they can scan 1 person in town, and will be told if that person is a Vampire/Thrall, Werewolf/Lycan, or the Vampire Slayer. The Blood Seer does not initially know the identity of the wolves, but are encouraged to contact the wolves if they can. The Blood Seer is immune to the first attack of any sort from vampires. Cannot be converted into a vampire, but will die if bitten twice.

Minion - A human hiding amongst the villagers but aligned with the wolves. They know the identities of all wolves but are forbidden from contacting them in any way. Cannot be turned into a vampire, but will die if bitten.

*****VAMPIRE ROLES*****
the vampires win if all wolves and the Bogeyman are eliminated, and the number of vampires is equal to or greater than the village population

Vampire (NEW) - An ancient evil who want nothing more than to rid their ancestral home of the human and wolfen vermin who have invaded it. Each night, they may choose 1 person to either attack and kill, or gently bite. If they bite the same person twice at any point in the game, that person becomes a vampire the next night, losing any abilities associated with their prior role and joining the vampire faction. The Vampires must rest for 1 night after converting someone. Vampires and werewolves are immune to one another's attacks.

Renfield (NEW) - This abject fly-eater is the vampires' servant. Like the werewolves' Minion, Renfield knows the identities of the vampires but is forbidden from contacting them. Renfield will be informed when any new vampires are created as well. Although Renfield would love to fully join the vampires' communion, they cannot be converted; they will simply die if bitten. Does not count as a vampire, and does not need to be killed for either the wolves or the villagers to win.

*****VILLAGE ROLES*****
the village wins if all wolves and vampires, plus the Bogeyman, have been eliminated

Villager - These ordinary folks live in a land where various supernatural forces have converged, and they don't have the money to relocate, so they'll just have to lynch people until they figure things out.

Seer - The Seer is gifted with a special ability to detect supernatural forces. Each night, they can pick 1 person to scan. They will be told if that person has wolf blood (Werewolf, Lone Wolf or Lycan), the essence of a vampire (Vampire or Thrall), or has a magical aura (Magician, Necromancer, Bogeyman, Mummy, or Creature). Any other roles will be read as normal humans.

Apprentice Seer - A normal villager who has studied the art of being a Seer, but not yet mastered it. If the Seer dies, they will take over the Seer's duties.

Detective (NEW) - A village-aligned investigator who cannot detect supernatural evils, but can deduce the identities of humans who have criminal or murderous intentions. They will get a result of "evil" when investigating the Sorcerer, Minion, Blood Seer, Renfield, or Necromancer. They will also receive "evil" results for the Gambler, Bookie, Lost Love, and any village role that can kill (Vampire Slayer or Hunter).

Apostate Seer (NEW) - A reject from the seer arts who has limited, undeveloped scanning abilities. Each night, they can select 1 person to scan. They are returned a role belonging to a random living person other than their target. While this may seem unhelpful, the Apostate could eventually learn or figure out some important information, especially if they are fortunate enough to be returned roles that only occur once in the game. For example, if they are returned a result of Seer, they know that the person they scanned cannot be the Seer. However, if they are returned a role like Villager, the person they scanned could still possibly be another Villager.

Magician - This villager can use a powerful spell to protect another member of the town, or themselves, against any night attacks. However, if their protectee is attacked while the spell is in effect, the magic feedback will kill both the Magician and the attacker. If they wish, the Magician may protect the same person, including themselves, every night. The Magician's spell passively protects from vampire bites as well, though a bite will not trigger the magical feedback. (This is the Best Dude from WW5.)

Hunter - If they die by any means, they may choose to shoot and kill anyone in their dying moment, or shoot their gun harmlessly into the air. A Hunter wins in a one-on-one confrontation with a werewolf or vampire, so if a Hunter is the last villager alive with a single wolf/vampire (or 2 Hunters and 2 evils, etc.), the village will win.

Vampire Slayer (NEW) - A dedicated adversary of vampires who has spent years trying to eradicate the vampire menace, and has now tracked it to yet another new town. Each morning, the Vampire Slayer is updated on how many vampires are in town. They can also attack suspected vampires at night, driving a stake through the heart of their victim. Initially, they can attack twice per game, but for every 3 vampires that are created, the Vampire Slayer gains an additional night attack. Their stakes will kill vampires and humans. They cannot kill wolves, however, so if the Slayer tries to kill a wolf, the attack will be unsuccessful and the wolves will be told the Vampire Slayer's identity. The Slayer is immune to the first attack of any sort from vampires. Cannot be converted into a vampire, but will die if bitten twice. Although aligned with the village, the Vampire Slayer may win even if the village loses, as long as all vampires are eliminated while the Slayer is still alive.

Hangman (NEW) - This bloodthirsty villager simply loves to lynch. Once per game, they may choose to step forward publicly, announce their identity, and rouse the crowd to lynch 2 people that day. The Hangman is very protective of their role: if anyone falsely claims in public to be the Hangman, the moderator will reveal the real Hangman and kill the pretender, either instantly (if the claim is during the day) or at daybreak (if the claim is at night).

Elder - A tough old villager who's not so easily killed. They will survive the first night attack from any party. They also take 3 bites to convert into a vampire.

Masons - A network of villagers who are known to one another. Because this is such a secret society, if anyone is caught saying the word "mason" in public, they will die.

Diseased - An ailing villager whose affliction is even deadlier to supernatural killers than it is to humans. If the Diseased is killed by any evil force at night, then whichever faction killed them will be too sick to attack at all the next night. Cannot be converted into a vampire, will die if bitten.

Pest (NEW) - This voluble villager can't help but be social, even under dire circumstances. They just want to make friends, and will try anything to get someone to talk to them. Each night, they must choose 1 person in town, and the moderator will privately reveal the Pest's identity to that person. The Pest should try to reveal themselves only to other people they believe to be villagers. However, the Pest must choose a different person every night until they have been revealed to every living player; if they ever don't choose, a random player will be chosen for them that night.

Lycan - An unfortunate soul born with a slight amount of wolf blood in their veins, but a good heart. The Lycan is village-aligned, but will read to the Seer as a werewolf. The benefit of their wolf lineage is that they cannot be killed or converted by vampires. They are unaware of the wolves in their family tree, and will be told that they are a Villager.

Thrall (NEW) - The vampire version of the Lycan. A villager who has been fed on by vampires so often, and is so contaminated by their essence, that they actually appear as a vampire to the Seer. Just like actual vampires, they cannot be killed by wolves. They have been so badly drained of blood that they also cannot become a true vampire; if a vampire bites them just once, they will die. They are unaware of what's been happening to them, and will be told that they are a Villager.

Scapegoat (NEW) - A normal villager except that they are unfairly disdained by their fellow townsfolk. Should the village vote ever result in a tie, the mob will lynch the unfortunate Scapegoat.

*****SWITCHABLE VILLAGE ROLES*****
these players start as village-aligned, but may change allegiances under certain circumstances

Cursed - A curse has been placed upon this villager: "If violence should befall you beneath the light of the moon, you will howl like a beast and run with the wolves." If they are ever attacked at night by any means, the Cursed will survive and become a werewolf. The Cursed becomes a wolf after ANY night attack, including a vampire bite. They are unaware of their true identity, and will be told they are a Villager. They will read to the Seer as human before they are turned, and a wolf after they are turned.

Siblings (NEW) - The 2 Siblings are known to one another, forming a networked pair of villagers similar to the Masons. However, if the village ever lynches a Sibling, or if one is killed by a village killing role, then the remaining Sibling, enraged by grief, will switch allegiances and become a Minion of the werewolves. At that point, they will be told the identities of all wolves and will fully join their side, but just like the Minion, they will be forbidden from directly contacting the wolves.

Farmer (NEW) - An ordinary villager for most purposes, but they live slightly outside town and find their less rural neighbors' tendency to form bloodthirsty mobs distasteful, especially when those mobs don't even uncover true evil. If 3 village-aligned players are lynched over the course of the game, the Farmer will become disgusted with the town. At that point, the Farmer's alignment switches to Neutral and they no longer count towards the village's population. The Farmer must then pick their own win condition: whether they will side with, and win with, the village, wolves, vampires, or even the Lone Wolf or a Neutral party. They will not be told the identities of anyone on the side they choose.

Aluka (NEW) - This villager has some dormant and mostly inactive vampiric traits that may emerge under certain very rare circumstances. If the original vampires all die, and no new vampires have been created, the Aluka's vampire nature will be awakened by the loss, and they will fully transform into a vampire. Otherwise, once a new vampire has been created in town, the Aluka will be informed that their vampiric nature permanently slumbers, and they will become a completely normal Villager. The Aluka will not read as a vampire to the Seer unless they transform.

*****NEUTRAL ROLES*****
these players have their own individual win conditions

Necromancer (NEW) - A sinister figure who is trying to assemble an army of the undead to rival all other factions. Each night, the Necromancer picks 1 person. If that person then dies at any point, they will become an undead zombie. The zombies are dead for most purposes, and can't participate in conversations. However, the zombies will be counted as though they vote with the Necromancer. At the end of each day, after voting is closed, it will be announced how the zombies voted, which will always be the same as the Necromancer. The Necromancer wins if the number of zombies ever exceeds the total number of living players, at which point the game will simply end and everyone else will lose. As long as that does not happen, though, the Necromancer does not need to be killed for any other faction to win. If the Necromancer dies, all zombies stop voting and die for good.

Mummy (NEW) - An eerie being who is irresistably drawn to the Scarab Amulet that is being passed around town. No one knows what the Mummy wants with the Amulet, and everyone fears what might happen if the Amulet ever winds up in its bandaged hands. Everyone in town agrees that both the Mummy and the Amulet give them the creeps. The Mummy does not care about the other goings-on or factions in town; they have their own mysterious goal, known only to them. Speaking publicly about the Mummy or the Scarab Amulet may result in horrific consequences.

Bogeyman (NEW) - This evil, bloodthirsty beast is lurking in the shadows of the town, slavering for an opportunity to kill. If there is ever a night where there is no apparent kill from both the wolves and the vampires, then the Bogeyman will get to kill instead. The Bogeyman's goal is to clear the night of all others who are active during it. For the Bogeyman to win, everyone who has a night action (wolves, vampires, any good or neutral roles who submit choices at night) must be dead. If the game ends in this state, the Bogeyman wins and all other factions lose. The Bogeyman must be killed before any other faction can win.

Creature (NEW) - A hideous swamp monster who desperately wants to be loved. The Creature is seeking their Lost Love, the only living being who has ever cared for them and not shunned them. Neither the Creature nor the Lost Love may post their identities publicly; they must find each other more discretely. Every night, the Creature breaks into someone's house and stares at them creepily while they sleep, hoping to find the Lost Love. If the person they watch has any night activity (scanning, attacking, protecting, receiving an amulet, etc.) the Creature will be told what it is. Once the Creature and Lost Love find one another, the Creature stops watching people and the pair become Lovers; they win by surviving together until the end of the game. If either should die once they find each other, the other will die too, and the pair will get to choose someone to kill and take with them as vengeance against the world for destroying their love. If either should die before they find each other, the remaining one will become a Tanner, seeking to die by any means.

Lost Love (NEW) - A forlorn lover who wants only to be reunited with the Creature.

Gambler (NEW) - The Gambler and the Bookie have initiated a macabre series of bets with their own lives as the stake. Each night after the first, the Gambler must name someone who they predict will die during the next day or the next night. If the Gambler is right 5 times over the course of the game, they win and the Bookie dies. If the Gambler is wrong 6 times over the course of the game, the Bookie wins and the Gambler dies. Twice during the game, the Gambler may choose to skip laying a bet without penalty. The Gambler and Bookie may both compete to manipulate lynch votes and night kills for the purposes of their game; they don't care what happens to anyone else in the village beyond the stakes of their wager. They do not know one another's identities. If either of them dies before the wager is complete, the other wins if they can then survive until the end of the game.

Bookie (NEW) - Bets their life against the Gambler being right.

*****NO ALIGNMENT/STATUS ROLE*****

Mayor - At any time, the village may elect a Mayor if they wish. As soon as anyone has received the votes of a majority of living players, they are elected Mayor and their vote will count twice. Once a player dies, their mayoral vote is cancelled. If the Mayor dies, all mayoral votes are reset and the village may elect a new one.

Bitter Ghost -Any good or neutral character who dies on the first night will linger as a tangible presence in town, seeking revenge against the evil forces that killed them. As other people die, each new ghost, prior to entering the afterlife, should draft a short message to give to the moderators, who will pass it on to the Bitter Ghost. Twice during the game, the Bitter Ghost can return to the public forum and pass on one of those messages. The ghost may only pass the message along publicly; they cannot privately correspond about the game in any way with the living, and they cannot discuss the messages with other ghosts.

*****ITEM*****

Scarab Amulet - An item that is tied to the Mummy. It is a blood-red gem incased in an insectile gold setting, and in the right light it seems to glow forebodingly. The Mummy desperately wants to find the Amulet, which is being passed around town in secret. An individual in town is given the Amulet at the beginning of each night, and holds onto it that night and throughout the next day. Before nightfall, the holder of the Amulet can choose someone new to take the Amulet for the next night and day. No one but the Mummy knows what the Amulet does or why the Mummy wants it so badly. Everyone is quite afraid of the Amulet and wants to pass it on as quickly as possible, and hope they've seen the last of it. Speaking publicly about the Mummy or the Scarab Amulet may result in horrific consequences.

** All night roles please send your first night actions to sevenarts & myself on Slack before Monday morning. **

Sevenarts is the main person you should send night action stuff too, I'll mostly just be compiling things for the spreadsheet I'll make public when the game has wrapped. I may occasionally run a few days here and there to give sevenarts a breather, but that will announced in the thread.

NEW VOTING GUIDELINES, PLEASE FOLLOW TO HAVE VOTES COUNT:

* Please include what type of vote you'll be casting before you use color-codes and cast your vote.

Greetings. I'm Constantin Ceauşescu, designer and builder dungeon, oubliettes, and secret prisons. We recently completed construction of a plant in Cluj Napoca that I am unable to disclose more information. At the moment I took a break here in this city better. If anyone has any need of my services, however, I am more than willing to suspend my vacation and help with your needs.

Hi, my name is Alexandra Stan. I just arrived in town looking to get away from the Bucharest grind and write a song to rival my 2011 smash hit, Mr. Saxobeat. I'll mostly be hanging out down at my new studio by the river. If you see me strolling the banks with my audio memo recorder, please don't ask for my autograph--even Romanian superstars deserve a little peace and quiet.

Well, a little introductory performance couldn't hurt ... why not?

Augustin Balloon flopped face down onto his bed. He'd had a fun night playing cards with some of the local goths around town (goths in Romania really call bullshit on goths everywhere else), though he'd clearly smoked too much of whatever the hell was in that pipe that was going around. His head felt like a balloon, a joke that wasn't lost on Balloon, even in his fog-headed, floaty feeling state. So he was content...mostly. In the back of his mind, there was a dread trying to fight its way to the front. He tried to push it back. "You're just being paranoid, Auggie," he mumbled to himself, half asleep, half stoned out of his mind. But he couldn't deny a chill wind blowing through the village. Something, or some people, he suspected, had changed.

Hector, if you have no friends and live in your parents basement, you might be interested in joining in on my weekly card game. The goths are nice enough, though they can be a bit standoffish at first.

I am the interesting Actor, Tom Hanks. Pleased to meet you all, who I already know, because I have been living in this great town for my whole adult life. Movies never happened to me, and my life has been full of good and satisfying errands in this town with you all.

Pleasure to be Tom my whole adult life. I invite the usual gang to coffee tomorrow morning. an invitation is not needed, because we all know ourselves, the coffee gulpers,

Ha, no, I see your mistake here though. You've misspelled my last name. It's Balloon.

I would like to invite everyone to come hills overlooking Bran Castle and sip tuica with me. We will enjoy fine mist and dark storm watch for the horizon.

I would, Constantin, but I'm already in bed. Another time, perhaps.

Augustin finally settles into sleep, wondering for a brief moment if he's actually be conversing with anyone.

Tonight is too dark, but tomorrow you can come to see spikes installed to mount the skulls of our enemies on the balcony of the Lord beyond its old city walls. I'm going tomorrow to sharpen and polish them, come and see.
