SSWW: Game Over: Crewmembers Win

There are worse ways to spend the time, but not many.

Postby internetfriend » Wed Jan 13, 2016 5:28 pm

It was supposed to be a simple supply run.

Captain Gil sighed handsomely. It was late. He rubbed his eyes. The digital readouts in front of him pulsed and flowed with data. Metrics, measurements, adjustments. He was alone on the bridge. Alone with the baby. His baby. The SpaceX Rare Boy XIV.

Space law mandated that there always be at least three people on the bridge, but Captain Gil had given the others the night off. They wouldn't be getting to Jupiter-1000 for eleven more Earth-5 days. There was no space debris to avoid. No one had seen a single space pirate in Sector Four for fifteen Earth-7 years. Everything was on cruise control. So Captain Gil had taken the night to himself. Just him and the Rare Boy. A sweet night with his darling.

During the day, the bustle of people going about their business distracted Captain Gil. It kept him from really feeling out what the Rare Boy needed. When he was alone, however, he began to understand the ship a little better. All the white noise fell away. He could hear the Rare Boy. The distant sound of fans working, hard drives writing, CPUs 'putin'. Its own little language. It spoke to him. He was beginning to understand.

Hell, it reminded him a little of growing up back in Space British Columbia back on Earth-A-Million, dancing to Hyper EDM in the couv and getting kinky with—

Suddenly, a display on the other side of the bridge flashed. Captain Gil did a flip over a console and roguishly sprinted to the flashing display. WARNING. INFILTRATION DETECTED. The words dissolved. FOUR ALIEN LIFEFORMS DETECTED. The words dissolved. DOPPELGÄNGERS DETECTED. The words dissolved. HELP ME CAPTAIN GIL. Captain Gil gasped beautifully. The Rare Boy . . . spoke English-8? Why hadn't it said something sooner?

No time. He knew the protocol. He did a flip back to the other side of the room and immediately thumbed the "Bridge Lockdown" button. There was a rumble as blast shields and beams of reinforced steel covered the only entrance to the bridge. He felt a pang of guilt for locking himself away from the crew, but it was regulation: He had to be absolutely sure that no unwelcome guests get access to the Rare Boy's control system. That would be a disaster.

Next, he did two flips over to the navigation console and entered the emergency override PIN to take manual control of the ship. He killed the propulsion, and enabled the brake jets. Over the next twelve hours, the ship would slow to a halt. Space law forbade a ship with unidentified and possibly hostile lifeforms to approach a populated planet, lest citizens be put in danger. So the Rare Boy was stuck out here, drifting, millions of miles from anyone else, until its crew resolved the situation. Or it resolved them.

Only one thing left to do. Captain Gil walked dopely over to his Media Center and positioned himself in front of the microphone. It would pick up his voice and broadcast it all over the ship through the speakers set into the ceiling of every room, to be heard by the ship's crew. He pictured them. He'd hand-picked them, gone on countless runs with them, kissed one of them, once, under kind of weird circumstances, battled alongside them. They were his people. Now they were in danger. A few might already be dead.

He took a breath to steady himself and began to speak to his loyal crew—and whatever else was out there.

"Attention space geeks. I apologize for bothering you at this late hour, but I have some concerningreceived notification minutes past midnight tonight, standard Earth-15 time, I was informed that alien lifeforms have infiltrated our ship . . ."

Beyond the blast doors, Captain Gil's voice boomed and echoed through the Rare Boy's hallways, waking crewmembers and aliens alike to a terrifying new day—in space.

Hello, and welcome to Space Werewolf.

If you would like to play, please sign-up by posting !signup in this thread. I am going to cap the game at 20 players.

This game is going to be run speed-style, meaning that I want each day to last only a few hours. Run this way, this game will go two days at the absolute outside, but probably just one. This is going to be a fast, high-action, high-death game. Unless I balanced it wrong, in which case it will go on until the board shuts down, at which point we'll continue it over Snapchat.

IMPORTANT RULES PLEASE READ:

If you sign up, I obviously don't ask that you be online for the entirety of the game's duration, but I do ask that I be able to reach you and you generally be able to respond within a few minutes during normal daytime hours. I also need an email for you, so please PM that to me if you sign up. Also, I can start as soon as we get twenty or wait a day or two, let me know what you guys prefer. Doesn't make sense to wait very long, though, because it'll be quick.

This one is best for people that have played WW here before, I think.

There will not be a suicide mechanic, meaning you can say "Mason" all you like. If you sign up, you're stuck on this ship with the rest of us.

No anonymous emailing, no screenshots, no falsified messages from the moderator (me).

Also, the following players aren't allowed to sign up for reasons I absolutely refuse to explain:
*Alice
*Chet
*Milk
*Pierrot
*Scrumptious Justice
*Stakeout

Roster:
*granger
*badvibes
*mudd
*big cat

Following are the roles that will be in this game. I very much regret that I cannot give you a list of how many of each role are in this, so I truly have to apologize for that. I would really recommend reading the roles, because this game is probably going to be pretty different from previous iterations.

There are currently 3 crewmembers and 1 alien alive.

***Crewmember Roles (Win condition: Eliminate all the aliens so that Captain Gil will restart the ship.)***

Empath: Nurturing, tender soul that can't stand to see others in pain. At night, the Empath selects a player to protect. If that player is attacked that night or is lynched the following day, they survive.
  • If the Empath successfully protects a player in this way, that player cannot be protected again.
  • If the Empath successfully protects a player from the Mindworm, that player gains permanent immunity to the Mindworm.
  • If the Empath successfully protects a player, the Empath is exhausted and cannot protect anyone the following night.
  • The Empath can abstain from using their power if they so desire.
Hero: This crewmember is taking matters into their own hands. They have two night kills that work in different ways. They can use each kill one time in the course of the game, in whatever order and during whichever nights they choose. They may use both kills the same night if they so desire. The kills are as follows:
  • Poison. At night, the Hero sneaks into someone's room and drips poison into their mouth. Immediately following the next night, that person expires. (So if the Hero poisons someone on Night 1, that person will die at the conclusion of Night 2.) They will not know that they have been poisoned, unless they are the Genius.
  • Blast Them. At night, the Hero sneaks into someone's room and blasts them. That person dies immediately. If that person turns out not to have been an alien, the Hero is overcome with grief and regret at the brutality with which he killed an innocent, and immediately automurks.
Trigger-Happy: This twitchy crewmember never lets their hand stray too far from their belt. If they are killed for any reason, they quickdraw their blaster and make a retaliation shot against a living player. This retaliation shot is compulsory and cannot be blocked.

Psyker: This crewmember has powerful psychic abilities brimming deep down in their unconscious. Once per game, at night, the psyker can let the demons out. This causes a psychic storm to engulf the SpaceX Rare Boy XIV. All other actions that night are blocked. This leaves everyone on the ship dazed and confused. Everyone who had an action blocked by the storm must choose a different target the following night. (Meaning that if Arnold tried to kill Bob the night of the storm, Arnold may not try to kill Bob the next night.)
  • If the Psyker blocks either of the Hero's kills, those kills are considered expended.
  • If the Psyker uses his storm on a night that the Paranoiac has posted up, the Paranoiac's charge is NOT expended.
  • If the Psyker blocks any of the Mindworm's kills, the psychic feedback causes the Mindworm to explode.
Paranoiac: These guys aren't going down without a fight. Twice per game they can Hunker Down at night. If any Bioweapons, Umbrellas or Gossips try to visit the Paranoiac during these nights, their actions are canceled and they are killed.

Gossip: This blabbermouth has no sense of privacy. Once per game, the gossip chooses a target. He sneaks into their room at night, goes through their diary, and finds out their deepest secrets. The next day he casually mentions everything he read over breakfast.
  • If the Gossip reads an alien's diary, the alien's role is made public knowledge the next day.
  • If the Gossip reads a crewmember's diary, their role is exposed to the public, and the aliens can kill that individual as a free action any night thereafter. That kill cannot be blocked by the Empath or the Psyker's storm.
  • If the Gossip tries to read the Paranoiac's diary while the Paranoiac is Hunkered Down, the Paranoiac shoots and kills the Gossip.
Insomniac: This crewmember can't sleep, and has taken to ranging around the spaceship at night. Each night, the Insomniac may choose someone to spy on. If their target visits another crewmember's room (i.e. uses an action on someone else, attempts to use an action on someone else, or is secretly meeting up with someone else to make out), the Insomniac is told who their target visits.
  • If the Insomniac spectates the Paranoiac on a night that the Paranoiac Hunkers Down, the Insomniac hears the Paranoiac clumsily erecting defenses in their room.
  • If the Insomniac and the Umbrella target one another, the Umbrella's ability overrides the Insomniac's.
Bloodthirsty Nut: An overeager ding-dong. They just can't chill the fuck out for a second. The bloodthirsty idiot has to vote for another player every single day. The bloodthirsty idiot cannot abstain from the vote or make a no-vote. Players can have other roles in addition to this role.

Genius: This crewmember heads the research bay, and, hoo boy, they're smart as hell. Just like...crazy smart. Hard to even describe. They have a remarkable knack for accurately drawing conclusions from very subtle clues, making them spookily capable of understanding the truth of a situation. Specifically:
  • If the Hero kills an alien, the Genius is told the identity of the Hero.
  • If the Hero poisons the Genius, the Genius is told that he was poisoned.
  • If the Empath successfully protects someone, the Genius is told the identity of the Empath.
  • If the Paranoiac kills an alien, the Genius is told the identity of the Paranoiac.
  • If the Gossip visits an alien, the Genius is told the identity of the Gossip.
  • If the Umbrella attempts to distract the Genius, the Genius is notified.
  • If the Mindworm kills anyone, the Genius is told the identity of the Mindworm.
  • If the Mindworm dies trying to kill the Open Book, the Genius is told the identity of the Open Book.
  • If an alien is lynched, the Genius is told the identity of a random good guy.
  • If three villagers are lynched over three consecutive days, the Genius is told the identity of an alien.
  • If the Genius is the last crewmember alive, he negotiates a truce with the remaining aliens. In this scenario, he and the aliens both win as long as they can convince Captain Gil to turn the ship back on.
  • However, the Genius is also of sensitive temperament, and is easily overwhelmed. This means that if the Psyker ever unleashes the storm, the Genius is thrown a little out-of-wack, and there is a 25% chance that any conclusion he receives for the remainder of the game will be false.
Open Book: A totally transparent and forthright spaceindividual. If the Mindworm attempts to kill the Open Book at any point during the game, the Mindworm explodes, all alien actions that night are canceled, and the Open Book is told the identity of the Umbrella.

***Alien Roles (Win condition: Make it to Jupiter-1000 alive.)***

Bioweapon: These guys are mean. Classic mean alien. Once per night they may kill one target of their choosing.

Umbrella: Have you ever been unable to focus because of a nagging feeling that you're doing something wrong? That's the Umbrella. The Umbrella chooses one target each night to distract, which stops their actions from going through.
  • If the Hero and the Umbrella target one another, the Hero's action goes through.
  • The Umbrella cannot stop the Genius from drawing conclusions.
  • If the Umbrella blocks the Psyker on the night that the Psyker lets the storm out, the Umbrella is killed and the Psyker is unaffected.
Mindworm: This rude little bug preys on mistrust. The Mindworm can kill any crewmember that has privately contacted them, regardless of the channel (PM, email, text, whatever). This includes players that respond to an initial message from the Mindworm. The Mindworm can choose to kill these players during any night and in whatever quantities and order they please, without restriction.
  • No one is allowed to ask me how I'm going to verify who has spoken to the Mindworm. If someone DOES ask me, they will not receive an answer, but they will receive a permanent black mark on their record.
  • If the Psyker blocks any Mindworm kills with his storm, the Mindworm immediately explodes.
  • If the Mindworm attempts to kill the Open Book, he immediately explodes, all alien actions that night are canceled, and the Open Book is told the identity of the Umbrella.
Me Too: These guys are just trying to survive. They have no special abilities, but are on the alien's team as far as win conditions are concerned. Also, they're fascinated with the human concept of "execution," and have to vote for another player every single day. They cannot abstain from the vote or make a no-vote.

I'm down to do this basically whenever, EXCEPT that I can't do it Monday or Tuesday (18th and 19th), and so can't start it any time when there's even the slightest chance that it'll go into either of those days.

I'm not going to play, and I don't think IS will need too much help in a 2 day game, but I'll offer help as an asst. mod if needed.

If not, good luck everyone!
