Jesus christ you have to be kidding me.

Yeah, I love Dave Hill, but I have struggled to make it through any of the episodes after the first two.

Just saw both Nerdist and WTF have Kevin Smith as a guest this week. Hopefully not too much overlap.

It kinda ruins it for me when NNF has a more leftfield guest like Craig Bierko and then within days he's popping up on every other podcast

Shades of the David Spade episode of Larry Sanders

I didn't think Bierko was very good on NNF, so I can't imagine he'd be much more entertaining on any other podcast.

fair point

i mean i know theres always a low level UCB insularity to the entire enterprise but then theres a month where kevin smith is on nerdist and WTF, maron is on nerdist, hardwick is on CDR making fun of maron, patton is on CDR and WTF, fitzdog is on everything... etc...

the saving grace is that the power dynamics and tone are still different from show to show so even like maron on nerdist would be a completely different show from hardwick on WTF, but yeah

and im not even really complaining. theres been some pretty great shit the past few weeks. in particular maron has been on a streak since like thanksgiving at least.

i'm really curious how he's gonna cope with all this attention and praise.

i feel like he's totally ripe for someone at like HBO or AMC or FX trying to create some weird meta-vehicle for him, to capitalize on his profile. and of course he'd wanna do it if it was promsing and lucrative, but i really think WTF is basically a perfect format for him.

maron might be just a bit too crazy for anything big on tv. I love the guy and wtf is amazing but I'm not sure there's a vehicle to bring him to a bigger audience

what's maron's real skill here?

he's not particularly good at comedy, so it would have to be an interview show, right? he's just good at getting insight from funny people.

and since it's still going on this page, I don't see the value of Dave Hill at all. He's kind of the anti-funny to me.

that's why he's the perfect podcast host but I can't really see him being the man on some big comedy show or whatever

i think as much as interviewing maron is really articulate and interesting in his self obsession and kind of borderline quixotic self help quest.

hes not actually a miserablist, i think hes TRYING to better himself but he's self aware about his nature and his phychology and has an oversensitive bullshit meter that makes it hard for him to commit to a program of self improvement.

i think a lot of folks here are probably inthe same boat, or at least have been there, so a lot of his rants hit pretty close to home. hes too old to just be angry guy forever, but doesnt really have a good system in place yet for getting from here to there.

thats why the rants are so great, and stuff like bobby lee or mike destefano are so awesome, theres a real sincere spiritual quest going on in his head, and hes more articulate about how self consicousness gets in his way than most people are. and it comes across as if its totally off the cuff. like theres no outline or anything, he just sits down and starts talking and every week makes some little breakthrough in coping or self insight and its facinating and hilarious.

for the record i'm not saying it'd be good to see in on another format necessarily, but it seems like hes in the position of having a lot of buzz and cred where people are probably gonna start trying to figure out how to harness his energy into something like a TV show...
