I never ever collected sets, but would go through stints collecting different cards; wrestling, comic cards, baseball, basketball but mostly football. I don't even remember buying packs really, I would just go to shops and try to buy rookie cards. I have all of the ones I decided to keep in a binder in my basement. I have like 6 Peyton Mannings, 8 Edgrine James (though he would be the first back to have 2 2,000 seasons and end up as the best ever : / ), numerous Randy Moss cards (2 autographed jersey cards and 3 autographed diamond series rookies from where I met him at the WV state football championship games in 1999), Chad Pennington rookies, Byron Leftwich, a bunch of guys. Marshall was like the Boise State of the early 2000s and they were pretty much responsible for getting me into football, so I tried real hard to get rookies for all of their players that mattered.
I used to collect a lot of random shit as a little kid but I don't think I ever did it the right way. Like, I would decide that I was a comic collector, so I would go into the basement and dig up all my brother's old comics and go through them, but not read them or anything, and suddenly I had a collection. Same thing with cards, until I started buying football rookies and like, Micky Mantle reprints. My brother had some amazing stuff that he stored at his dad's house. I went with him to a card shop so we could sell some stuff. I sold like, 8 pokemon holographics for like $180 and he sold 2 graded-mint Upper Deck Griffey rookies, a graded-mint Topps Walter Peyton and a Mark McGuire rookie for $99 exactly. I was pretty

because that Griffey card was like THE card that everybody always mentioned when talking about modern collecting and he sold fucking TWO of them, plus some other great cards, for less than I sold something where even then, as a 10 year old, I understood would be completely worthless in like 2 years.
Sorry to hijack the thread, but I haven't thought about this stuff in forever.
