The Baseball (and other sports) Card Thread

Jesus christ you have to be kidding me.

Now it's card games e.g. Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon.

As far as baseball goes, they make a low-end series every year called Opening Day that goes for 99 cents a pack. The regular Series 1 and 2 sets go for $2-$3 a pack and you still get about 10 cards in a pack.

edit: And relating to gambra's post, they make a Topps Attax baseball card game but I have no idea how that sells.

I'm generally not a fan of modern card design (I'm a total sucker for retro sets) and it doesn't help that it's $50/pack.

that's a pretty cool looking card. i'm trying to stick to base sets for the time being, though.

Glad to hear that, and the stickers thing (i LOVED my sticker book)

The only pack I saw this year was $5 and had 5 cards and I was bummed.

I got the Lincecum Series 27 one. They actually had an identical Lincecum one from Series 26 without the World Series trophy, but I don't have that one. No one seems to have the alternate one from Series 26 on eBay either.

Did you know that FP does color commentary for the Washington Nationals now? He was kind of a tool, but I liked him on the sports radio back in the Bay.

Panini has announced that they've landed a license with the MLBPA to produce baseball cards featuring major league players. Their first set under the deal comes in December with 2011 Elite Extra Edition Baseball with 2011 Contenders Baseball following.

This deal provides some legitimate competition in the baseball card market as Topps has been the only company producing licensed cards for the past couple of seasons. Topps still holds the exclusive trading card rights to the MLB license, which means that Panini will not be able to use team uniforms or logos. But in gaining the MLBPA license, the Texas-based company will be able to produce cards of major league players.

Josh Hamilton will be used heavily in the marketing of the cards. The reigning American League MVP will be featured on packaging and in autograph card programs.

Expect further news later today following a press conference featuring representatives from Panini, the MLBPA and Hamilton

Hope this isn't what they really look like:

oof

also it will suck if panini locks up rookies or breakout players to exclusive deals and we never get their autos on licensed product. the donruss prospects stuff is decent but no mlb license means they still really aren't competing. panini will make some nice high end stuff but i still think it is kind of cheesy without logos.

When this says 43/149, does that mean he actually sat down and autographed 149 cards?

I'm still so confused by these chase cards you guys have been posting. For instance, who the fuck is crazy enough to cut up a Mickey Mantle jersey so that they can laminate sections of it in baseball cards?
