Some great architectural imagery and set in a fantasy-ish, steampunk-y dream world.

On a side note, has anyone read Iain Banks' Culture novels?

Trying to decide what to read next. Usually go for something non-fiction but I have a couple novels building up, including two by Flann O'Brien. Which should I read first: At Swim-Two-Birds or The Third Policeman?

i love davis' work, so i'm doubly stoked about it. not far in (it's my between semesters read). how's the grieve translation holding up in comparison?

Some interesting sections, though not as good as I was hoping for.

i thought there would be a bigger difference between the two, but it's pretty seamless, to me at least.

Reading Nixonland, feel a little disappointed about it. I'm starting Dan Simmon's The Terror next.
I reduced the temples of Elam to naught; their gods and goddesses I scattered to the winds. The tombs of their ancient and recent kings I devastated, I exposed to the sun, and I carried away their bones toward the land of Ashur.

Just finishing this

Joe: Cathedral is probably the best, if the most atypical. Longer, less minimalist. "A Small, Good Thing" is one of the best short stories ever written.

Edit: if by "Chandler" you meant "Carver"

Otherwise, probably "Farewell, My Lovely," although it can't hurt to step one back to "The Big Sleep" and just start at the beginning.
