I saw that for the first time last night flipping channels. The scene where they put on their trunks was a gem.

Let's hear from director Christopher Nolan first, and see what he'll divulge about the film. "It's really all about finishing Batman and Bruce Wayne's story. We left him in a very precarious place. Perhaps surprisingly for some people, our story picks up quite a bit later, eight years after The Dark Knight. So he's an older Bruce Wayne; he's not in a great state.

"With Bane, we're looking to give Batman a challenge he hasn't had before. With our choice of villain and with our choice of story we're testing Batman both physically as well as mentally."

Speaking of physical challenges, what can Tom Hardy tell us about Bane? "He's brutal. Brutal. He's a big dude who's incredibly clinical, in the fact that he has a result-based and oriented fighting style. It's not about fighting. It's about carnage. The style is heavy-handed, heavy-footed, it's nasty. Anything from small-joint manipulation to crushing skulls, crushing rib cages, stamping on shins and knees and necks and collarbones and snapping heads off and tearing his fists through chests, ripping out spinal columns. He is a terrorist in mentality as well as brutal action."

Costume designer Lindy Hemming also lets drop a few clues to his backstory as she talks about Bane's look. On the mask, she says, "He was injured early in his story. He's suffering from pain and needs gas to survive. He can't survive the pain without the mask. The pipes from the mask go back along his jawline and feed into the thing at his back, where there are two cannisters."

Mild Spoilers:

The film is set eight years after The Dark Knight
Bruce Wayne is “older” (eight years older, I should wonder) and “not in a great state”
Tom Hardy says of Bane that he is “brutal” and that he will employ “small-joint manipulation to crushing skulls, crushing rib cages, stamping on shins and knees and necks and collarbones and snapping heads off and tearing his fists through chests, ripping out spinal columns.”
He also describes him as “a terrorist in mentality as well as brutal action.”
Bane is “suffering from pain and needs gas to survive. He can’t survive the pain without the mask.”
The IMAX preview coming next month is “basically the first six, seven minutes of the film. It’s an introduction to Bane
Sorry I don’t fell love anymore. Don’t lock for me. I’l be good. I will try to pay you back. Thank x Everithing.

the fact that he thinks the bane conflict is fresh, and that he thinks we give a shit enough about bane's 'fighting technique' to go on about it for 100 words concerns me a lot.

i dunno. it'll probably be awesome with a couple too-long boring action pieces like the truck/boat/train scenes.

anything having to do with transportation i guess

all that talk about Bane's brutality and this "finishing" the Wayne/Batman story makes me think they may go down the Knightfall route.

But Bane was like that in the comics too, so at least it's accurate. His strategic/methodical view of things was even applied to himself, purging any weaknesses and eliminating anything that could potentially stand in his way. It's why once he became too dependent on the Venom drug, he cast it aside and rebuilt his body/mind without it.
But yeah, no doubt this will have a big action scene (I'm guessing the Gotham Stadium one) that potentially drags along. Gonna stay positive though :)

i was at the filming for it and it actually doesnt seem like it'll be TOO bad. i think it's right near the beginning supposedly and from what i could gather it's mostly talky with bane like, annnouncing his evil plans or whatever.

we were right up front when they were shooting the nationalk anthem bit of the game with the imax cameras. what sucks is i had something in my eye and if you can see me, it's either gonna look like i'm crying or i'm retarded.

most likely both

I really hope they take this route, honestly. I think it would recover my skepticism with the done-to-death bane/catwoman picks

Hadn't really thought about it until now, but it would be pretty rad if this ended up cribbing more from Dark Knight Returns than Knightfall.

still think it should have been a Hugo-Strange-toying-with-Batman's-identity thing

Arkham City videogame sort of stole this from me and ran with it, but did a terrible job

He needs to pump an anesthetic gas into his face at all times to function? Um...what? Is this Batman universe completely devoid of fentanyl? Also, pumping anesthesia gas into your face unchecked will likely kill you. The administration of anesthesia is highly difficult and precise and requires constant monitoring by someone who knows what they're doing. There is a reason that anesthesiologists make the kind of money they do.

this whole 8 years later thing seems like such a long time, how do you come up with a number like that unless he had a baby with rachel or something and they want some smartass kid to team up with him?

The 8 years thing is setting up the Knightfall angle. The role of Batman will inevitably begin wearing on Bruce and he'll start grooming ol' 3rd Rock (the Jean Paul Vallee character) to be his success.
