I had a bummer day yesterday. I shouldn't have been bummed, because I knew I overdid it some last week, but my weight stayed the same. I'm trying to drop 10 more lbs, but I haven't been able to bike in a while and I know that's a huge part of it. I've got to find a way to get back out there. I've lost that motivation, so even though I know how much I enjoyed biking, I never feel like doing it (on the rare occasion that I have time to).

Man, I'll tell you what - don't get a fucking 3 month old puppy when you're making a strong commitment to lose weight. You will never have time to exercise and you'll stress drink / eat yourself up the 3 pounds you lost in 2 weeks in 5 days.

when i feel unmotivated i just force myself and commit to doing only a very short ride.

for me thats like 90 min, for you it could be 20... whatever.

but i find if i just say, ok i dont have to do a big thing, but at least get dressed and get out on the bike and spin around the block, that once i'm out there its easy.

also i dunno to what extent commuting by bike (or partly by bike) is an option for you, but its certainly a way to incorporate it into a routine a bit less obtrusively. though i know that sometimes its not an option.

I'll never reproduce after seeing how much work a fucking goddamn puppy is.

And sorry for the comparison, I can't imagine how annoying it must be to have a beagle compared to your child who will one day give back to society and learn how to make it's own food.

if i'm doing roughly 60-100 pushups a day for a week at a time, resting then repeating with little cardio aside from a situp regimen, where does that leave me? it's left me hungry as hell for one thing, so i'm still eating like shit, which i blame on antidepressants weakening my will. but i was 5'10'' 217lbs last time i checked and i'm wondering if this is having any real effect aside from an increase in strength

i broke even last week. kinda saw it coming as my previous saturday night involved onion rings and other pub food.

cant remember if i mentioned it here or not but sharon decided she wanted to drop 10 pounds this year too and she got the my fitness pal app for her phone and its been really great for her.

its a calorie counter app but it has a barcode reader and a pretty huge database of pre-listed food so like if you eat something with a barcode you can just scan it in easily, and if you do typed serarches, it gives you access to everything anybody has entered, so its pretty exhaustive.

definitely recommended.

i havent even weighed myself in a couple of weeks, but i do feel a bit trimmer. ive been hitting the gym 3-5 times per week and have basically eliminated dessert, although i have substituted this for a bowl of cereal just about every night. the weekends are the hardest: going out to dinner, take out, beers...

Haven't weighed myself lately but I've definitely lost some optical inches. I'm starting to get to the point where if I look at myself in profile my arms (at least my upper arms) are overshadowing most of my torso. Can't wait for spring so I can get back to my 5x/week 25-35 mile bike rides and get my ridic abs from last summer back.

I haven't even felt like I've worked that hard at the gym lately due to work exhaustion/not sleeping well.

Made it down to 180 lbs yesterday. That's down 52.5 pounds in 11 months. Almost at my goal of 170 lbs. Had to donate a ton of clothes that no longer fit last week. Been going to do fat burning cardio 2-3 times a week at 24-hour fitness which has definitely helped. Still maintaining the low carb diet. Life is good.

Lost 8 lbs in January, which is a solid and healthy rate. But, last week was my last in New York and I spent every single night out at restaurants and bars, eating all of the food and drinking too many Manhattans. Had I kept myself in check, the result would have been a lot better. Back on it today.

12 lbs goal for February.

Fitting into things I haven't worn in years is great, but I can't help feeling like I wasted a bunch of money on all these clothes I bought last year that are now baggy on me.

Thanks guys.

what are you guys eating before you get to the gym?
very little, usually a handful of walnuts or a little cheese and a cup of black coffee. Afterwards I'll go have a proper meal though, something like grilled steak or salmon with brocolli, mushrooms, and onions.

I've always heard eating too much immediately before the gym is bad due to your body not being able to digest while working out.

i dont do the gym so take this fwiw but for my training/workouts (endurance/distance work usually), i try to have high carb, low fat, moderate protein meal a couple of hours before hand and make sure i'm well hydrated. if i'n gonna be out more than 2 hours, i eat 200 calories and 16oz of water per hour during the workout.

I read that most athletes prime their bodies with some fluids+caffeine before training so I've started doing this.

caffeine has been shown repeatedly to decrease perceived exertion at any given workload. thats its principle training and performance benefit.

I've been reluctant to get into caffeine before a workout (despite drinking a shitton of coffee everyday anyhow) but I've had pre-workout energy drinks a few times lately and it's really helped. Is there any reason why I shouldn't do this? Furthermore, are there any good pre-workout supplements/drinks/whatev that aren't going to make me insane? My roommate was taking Jack3d for awhile but that stuff is kinda scary.

edit: thanks badhat
