The craziest thing happened that day while I was shooting these photos. A turkey vulture swooped down from above and grabbed a pigeon (!) but got hit by a minivan on Grand Ave in downtown Oakland as it attempted ascension with its prey. The pigeon got away! Glad I didn't have my girlfriend's chihuahua with me on that shoot.

I'm a total amateur, so offhand I can't remember if i actually split toned or just altered the colour saturation. I've just started using Lightroom, which is a total godsend. I'll probably be posting a bunch now, as I have 6 month's worth of unedited / unuploaded pictures.

I really like all the night pictures, esp the one on the beach. That one with the fan is particularly nice too. Did you lug around a tripod with you the whole time?

nah, i lucked out with the amount of ledges/tables/staircases everywhere. the one of the beach at night was taken with the camera sitting on an empty beer can which was half buried in the sand, and the one of the gate with the moon was taken with the camera shoved between two branches of a tree. basically i'd had enough to drink that i'd be willing to do something like that with my camera but not enough that i wasn't gonna spend several minutes composing/getting a sharp exposure/tweaking settings
