i walked past two guys in the subway putting up one of those all white falling man posters and laughing about how stupid they thought it was.

found a pair on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Madison-Avenue-Wh ... 175&sr=1-1), but they seem like cheap novelties and have some pretty bad reviews.
the actual glass from the show is an old dorothy thorpe silver band glass, there are plenty on ebay 8-)

the new poster is pretty good - a lot going on in it. to me it suggests that SCDP's approach to advertising is going to start to fail in a major way, as the countercultural ad approach (VW's Lemon for instance) really takes off. This might be captured by the old idea of advertising (an attractive life you should be a part of!) literally falling apart, looking ridiculous, as this window display. The new ad strategy is all about expressing yourself, being unique - and the kids at SCDP are idiots or were fired. So maybe Peggy will step up in a big way.

There's also probably a lot of parallels with Don's desperate new marriage being a half-hearted attempt at personal reinvention. Hope there's some meaningful deaths (Cooper)

the clothing sold by banana republic is about 10x shittier in terms of quality, fit, and design than what successful people wore in the 60's

yeah i'm really interested to see how they deal with the shift towards burnbach-style ads. all of the characters are such composites of real people that i can see them dropping don's ross reever/unique selling proposition style to start turning him into a burnbach figure. they've maybe been suggesting that with the glow-coat ad and him coming around on faye's research, or at least some sort of creative shift. also i think the founding of SCDP is at least partially based on the DDB story. i'd be a little surprised if they start failing now as a business when they've got three more seasons to go.

mostly i just can't express how much i'm looking forward to this season.

If the people that participated in that crap actually watched the show it might get decent ratings

I may be wrong but wasn't SCDP shifting in that direction last season? I can't think of any examples but I have the impression that last season that agency was changing and Peggy was starting to have more of an influence.

I don't think they will fail, but I got the feeling that the various reinventions (both in agency strategy and personal lives) of the second part of last season were a little forced/fake

most excited to see the development of Peggy's character, whose bohemian exploits from last season didn't really connect with her work. zosia mamet is sexy, too, so I hope she's back.

also anyone who is excited about this season should read:

peter campbell really makes this show, hope they do more with him this season than last. he was actually far too sympathetic in season 4 I thought. dude needs to be way sketchier.

Edit: he and Roger make the show, I should say.

That post from the Game Change thread about politics kind of makes me feel like this is just a soap opera for people who went to college, and I don't even know why I like the show when I talk to people about TV, and hell I'm not even really excited for Sunday but as soon as the episode is over I'm probably going to be all, "I love this show" again.

I went to the premiere on Wednesday.

It's the strongest first episode of the season since the pilot aired.
