a few potential answers, one you mentioned (generic= 90-110% active ingredient)
another is how soon you take them from the last. i don't think it's as much a tolerance as it is just letting chemicals build back up to be released.
another is if your metabolism has increased from before it would take a higher dose to have the same effects. even kids with high metabolisms need higher doses than you'd expect (at least for XR, not sure if same is true for non-xr).
another is if you're taking Vitamin-C with it, as that would decrease the effects. eating shouldn't make a difference otherwise, but i seem to think it does.
i haven't noticed a lower potency in generic. the blue chalky solid tablet i think were non-XR. Usually XR come in pills with tiny pellets in them, and the tiny pellets are of different sizes so that they release some immediately and some later. also, i'm pretty sure the blue chalky only had 1 amphetamine while XR has two types. i prefer XR, but the blue ones were good for a little bit of time.
