is there a vegetarian thread

Jesus christ you have to be kidding me.

Postby fresh » Sun Mar 25, 2012 2:19 pm

i havent eaten meat in like two and a half weeks and im kind of ambivalent about sticking with it. even if i do keep it up i think i might make exceptions on special occasions but i dunno about that either. for a long time ive been eating better and better and incorporating more fruits/vegetables/beans/nuts/etc into my diet--to the point that i was barely eating meat anyway--so i figured i might as well try going whole hog. i couldnt give a fuck about killing/torturing animals so thats not the issue. anyone have thoughts/advice?

i'm not but i made a few recipes while he was doing this and they were all solid:

the chili and the chickpea/spinach dishes were particularly good

I just found a place in town that makes a good tempeh reuben, but at $9 it's a little pricey

comes with a ton of fries though

If you head down to any used bookstore, they're bound to have 4 or 5 copies of the Moosewood New Classics Cookbook.

I mention this because every vegetarian I've known ends up just having french fries for dinner 5 nights a week.

You should get The Grit Cookbook from the awesome restaurant in Athens, Ga.

I'm a lazy vegetarian. I eat pbj and fruit or black bean tacos for most meals. Greek yogurt for breakfast.

could never go vegan because the cheese is so bad

i prefer the taste of the soya meat-replacement stuff so i've not missed eating meat in a long time

when youre vegan/veg you just get so far from knowing what actually tastes really good that you start talking crazy

like raving about how some horrible, spongey, tasteless "cheese" is great because it melts

There are enough artisan cheesemakers around here where the cows are treated better than most pets that I don't understand why anyone would bother with vegan cheese.

science is gonna make animal-grown meat obsolete eventually

then all the chickens and cows will be extinct

and people will still be morally troubled by it. because caring about animals is fucking gay.

I'm a vegetarian, started because I am a bored eater so I thought choosing not to eat meat would give me a good sense of "control" of my over eating, also because of how much land it takes to grow meat animals. And then I starting feeling the ethical reasons too so now I'm pretty much a real hippie vegetarian. Not going to be vegan though because life's tough all over

I don't really miss meat much, but it smells real good. The couple of times I've given in has been pretty disappointing and made my stomach queasy after a while and you smell it all over your hands and eh.
