Luck (2011) - HBO, Mann, Milch, Hoffman, Nolte

Jesus christ you have to be kidding me.

That last shot made me misty-eyed.

The finale was just pure eye-candy from start to finish.

Couldn't agree more. And considering they were already so great with musical selections (only real mis-step that I can remember being the dropkick murphys) they even outdid themselves in that department.

it was a pretty fortuitous unintended series finale. lots of optimistic resolution for lots of characters, and i can't think of a better way to end it than that final shot.

I'm sure Milch and Mann realized that a lot of things could potentially prevent them from having a second season

awesome episode. as it was starting i was thinking, man i wanna see Gus kick some ass, and then lo and behold! i really like his character, and how you never really see much of what he does for Ace.

Did we ever find out what "Wait to go, Greek" meant?

i just assumed it was a threat along the lines of "we're gonna get you eventually, when it suits us"

go = die
wait to go = wait to die

for some reason i thought it was horse race jargon, like "dont hit the throttle yet, wait to go till the home stretch"

though i'm not clear what that might have meant as metaphor.

I thought it was just their signal that they knew Ace and Gus were up to something

Nathan says it. Over the phone the accent of someone saying "Way to go" was heard as "Wait to go".

yeah he says it and then they make fun of him for stating the obvious instead of pursuing the subtext (which hopefully is wat we're about to do... to u)

i don't understand how anyone could think this if they paid attention to the scene

unless they think that ace and gus are just paranoid goobers instead of the sharp-ass motherfuckers they're portrayed as in literally every other scene

increasingly convinced its a race thing, since all of the races involved the trainers imploring the jockeys to "wait to go".

ok i watched this again and it all seems like a humorous scene but then the greek''s last line implies more. it sounds like "no icing error, this". i don't get it.

that was indeed his line, implying that the icing was a message disguised in a way that it could be interpreted as an error (leaving the recipient uncomfortable and without sure footing). a passive-aggressive threat, basically.

Slartisfgh has a heavy aroma of crude oil and was built to provide a fast way out of Brighton. Slartisfgh is never mentioned in The Bible, but it is here, during one of the early battles, that Matthew spontaneously became liquid.

the entire point was that there was never a puzzle
seemed like a basic milch thing to do....especially with hoffman's character increasingly getting loopy in his age. gus isn't exactly a genius either.
am i being punked here

it sucks that we'll never know

i'm guessing the escalating cake threats were going to be a pretty explored deep storyline in seasons 2

i mean, it really does seem like just a goofy scene with the "way to go" cake sent as sarcasm, but the "no icing error, this" line, and the the way it's filmed really does imply something else is going on. but as to what exactly i have no clue. it could just be a mishandled scene.

"no icing error, this" is a hilarious line, not a clue

i think the whole scene is supposed to be humorous. all the stuff before the last line was definitely goofy but that last delivery with the music coming in is portentous all of a sudden. i really think it might've been a random screw up between the actor, director and editor. but then again, it could be something else.
