i went to a younger event, and it was awesome to have a pint, but man was it annoying. People were acting so ridiculous. Taking a sip and yelling "OH MY GOD!" filming each other drinking and shit.

Not kidding.

If I see an ad for another one i'm going to go and either

1.) Pound my pint and leave

2.) Get my pint and dump it in the trash can then yell cocksucker and run out

God, I can imagine this happening. Almost glad we never seem to have crazy rare beer tappings here sometimes. :(

yeah it's getting so fucking ridiculous. it is a good beer, but it ultimately is just a beer and the enthusiasm for it is just massively disproportional and ultimately bandwagoning.

i guess i should know i'm officially a beer snob at this point since my only taste of this year's was a 6 or 7 oz taster glass the beer bar manager poured me for being a regular (they raffled off pints this year for charity for their keg allocations, set a deadline for redemption of the pints, so i had some of what was left in the keg) and we both stood there sipping ours and talking about how it's difficult to quite understand the hysterics - versus the sort of reaction you witnessed.

that's exactly how it was at a CBS tapping in Jersey City. worst crowd i've ever seen at a bar, though the location should've forewarned me to that.
of course the bar didn't tell anyone but regulars they had to buy tickets. didn't even list that tix were required on the event page. so it was basically a bunch of people showing up disappointed, and the bar saying "oh but we have plenty of other stuff you can buy here! so still spend money!" i got the fuck outta there and never went back.

nah, it was that fucking one in Kirkland i posted a long time ago. My wife works in bellevue, so i just picked her up and we went after work.

I don't know what's wrong with me, but i can't stop drinking five beers a day this week. I'm telling myself I'll start acting like a normal dude next week. Going back to pinebox with a bro when they open at 3 today, fuck it. Green Flash West Coast, Maudite, Union Jack, and Hoptimum on tap.

A couple things...

ZD is drier than 1.018 (I would mash at 150-152F)
3F house yeast is English
No 60 min addition?

not bottled still to my knowledge. see my post a few pages back about their 5th anniversary DIPA though - it's already cracked the beeradvocate top 100 and it's like a month old or something. i had it on tap and the keg blew almost immediately, it's an amazing beer.

also worthwhile by them, and much more available, is just outstanding IPA.

it is bottled but only limited released/distributed in socal and sells out faster than a motherfucker

the last batch two weeks ago was bottled but only sold out of their (hard as fuck to drive to) brewery

you should trade for it if possible it's a top five beer for me

yeah i just fact checked myself and i guess i was wrong. looks like they only started bottling either last year or the year before, and yeah, despite being in so cal i've never even seen it except tapped, which also goes extremely quickly.

again, look out for 5th anniversary and just outstanding, though.

just outstanding and mongo by port brewing are probably my two favorite year-round and available bottled IPA options, at this point. both have enough malt-hops balance to taste good after 4 or 5 months. like i can't even say that for something like double jack - i had a bomber last week that was probably over 6 months and it was borderline bad, which is a shame because it's a great beer closer to fresh.

Yeah it's crazy hype but it's good. I guess I'm in pretty good with the gm of this place so I guess I'm on the early warning email list for their tappings/dinner/ events so I'll take an advanced ticket have my glass then switch to other stuff with lunch

you're in dc right ?

not sure if you get green flash but it's still relatively new to me in nebraska and it's fucking awesome. west coast ipa is huge, hop head red refreshing, and the rayon vert (to me) tastes a lot like orval, except for 1/3rd the price per bottle. and their bombers are a good deal too, double ipa i can get here for under $6.

others i would imagine you can find in DC: jolly pumpkin, stone, victory, weyerbacher...

I've only ever had Fireside Chat and Monk's Blood from 21A. Fireside isn't very good (although I think I'm just not a fan of the "winter warmer" style), but I like Monk's Blood quite a bit. At least I remember liking it.
